Marinette is a small village in the town of Marinette, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,422 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–Waukesha–Stoughton area. The Village of Marinette was organized on November 4, 1854 by a group of settlers from Illinois and other Midwestern states who were looking for a new home. The first post office opened in 1855 and was called Indianola. The name changed to Marinette in 1907 when the city of Green Bay became an incorporated municipality adjacent to Marinette. It has been reported that William Marincourt (1797-1863), one of the founders of Marinette and its first Postmaster, likely named his community after himself because he had sailed from England with James Cook on HMS "Beagle" in 1824 and returned with two stores full of goods including marine plants and animals collected during their trip. In 1847 Marincourt married Maria Hesselius (1802-1875), daughter of Lutheran pastor Johannes Hesselius (1768-1839). They had four children: Gustavus Augustus Marincourt (born December 12, 1848), Anna Catharina Hesselius ( born July 3, 1850), Wilhelm Julius Hesselius (November 15, 1853 – March 11, 1903) and Elise Margaretha Johanna Hesselius ( February 13th , 1861 – May 6th , 1945). After Maria's death in 1865 William moved to Racine County where he died three years later on October 14th 1865 at age 72 years old. His wife may have also passed away before her husband's death as she is not listed among his descendants living in Marinette today; however it is possible she also died after him. One key event which helped shape the character & culture of Marinette residents was World War II when many residents served in military units or patriotic organizations such as Veteran's Day Parade 1951 organized by Mrs. Lillian Kappeler which raised money to help war veterans obtain needed items like clothing & food ration cards; also regular school dances followed by socials/picnics every month until 1946 sponsored by Mrs. John Auld lady’s Auxiliary No 26 Waukesha Co Sheriff’s Office - all against prohibition laws then

Marinette is a small town in Wisconsin that was once the home of one of America's most famous women, Marinette Forest. She was born in 1892 and spent her early years living in nearby Superior, Wisconsin. After attending school there, she moved to Marinette in 1907 to become a mill worker. In 1915, she married John Matson and they had two children. Marinette became involved with local politics and served as the mayor of her town from 1951-1957 and 1969-1975. In 1980, she became the first female Mayor of any U.S. city when she was elected as part of the Democratic Party ticket for Mayor of Milwaukee. Today, Marinette still uses her maiden name to keep her privacy while serving as a role model for women throughoutWisconsin and around the world.
