The United States Air Force has been the aerial arm of America's military for over eighty years. The USAF is responsible for providing strategic air support to operations in all fifty states and in more than sixty countries. On 15 May 1957,Thus became operational components command structure - Base Element located at CFANDB headquarted Shaw AFB while Commander-in-chief elements operated from four base clusters: 1st Air Division – Washington state; 2nd Air Division – Colorado Springs Colo.; 3rd Air Division – Memphis Tenn.; 4th Air Division – Dayton Ohio. Each commander element had a Consolidated B-24 Liberator squadron as their primary aircraft type assignment; however these squadrons could also be used for transport or bombardment missions depending on availability or assigned mission requirements It should be noted that this organizational design change did not mean that USAF leadership no longer took advice from Canadians about air defence issues; rather they just assumed management responsibilities themselves On 1 May 1962 Headquarters U S A AF moved from Randolph AFB Texas to Elmendorf AFB Alaska Territory when construction began on Goldsboro AB . The United States Air Force was founded on February 14, 1947, by President Harry S. Truman with the goal of building a "diverse and effective" air force that could be called upon to support any military action. The USAF grew rapidly during the postwar period, becoming one of the most powerful militaries in the world by the early 1960s. In 1965, Lyndon B. Johnson ordered an expansion of the USAF undersecretary's program which led to the establishment of Tactical Air Command (TAC) in 1966. In 1969, TAC became operational and responsibility for all fighter aircraft within US Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM). With these changes came a corresponding increase in budget and manpower for USAF air forces. By 1975-1976, USAF air forces had reached their present size and capabilities.
