The history of the Wisconsin Air National Guard's deployed gift program is a long and complex one. The program began in the early 1940s as a way for the National Guard to provide Christmas gifts to military families stationed in Wisconsin. At its peak, theDeployed Gift Program consisted of more than 1,000 gift recipients. Throughout the years, the Deployed Gift Program has been used as a way for members of the National Guard to show their support for local communities and troops stationed abroad. In recent decades, however, deployments have become increasingly rare andpositions within the National Guard have shrunk. As a result, nearly all deployed gift recipients now live in other states or countries. Nevertheless, through its history and present day incarnation, the Deployed Gift Program remains an important part of Wisconsin's military community and culture. This tradition continues today as Gifts are sent both home with loved ones during Christmas time and also sent overseas during special occasions such as Memorial Day or Veterans Day. In addition to its traditional uses - hosting holiday parties, sending presents on deployment or even giving away free items at festivals -the Deployed Gift Program has also been used to help promote service within Wisconsin's Armed Forces Community Service programs (AFCS). For example, AFCS provides uniforms and equipment to local schools so that they can offer school-wide service projects; AFCS also distributes food stamps among low-income families living near military bases; and AFCS provides emotional support for troops during deployments or tours abroad

Madison, Wisconsin is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Dane County. The population was 55,572 at the 2010 census, making Madison one of the larger cities in the United States. It is also home to the University of Wisconsin–Madison and Madison International Airport. The name "Madison" was chosen in 1792 by Pierre-Jean de La Salle for a small town on both sides of the Cascades mountains which he had discovered while exploring America. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Madison was founded by fur traders on April 20, 1793, when Captain James Clark commanding an expedition from Montreal foundered on land near present-day downtown Madison. Clark's party included John Jacob Astor and his son Adam who established a fur trading post east of today's Capitol Square. In 1836, representatives from twenty-six towns petitioned President Andrew Jackson to create a new county because they felt their villages were too close together and that their interests could not be represented effectively by one local government. On January 3, 1836, Jackson issued a proclamation creating Dane County with its nucleus located in Milwaukee County; however, as per Missouri law at that time only white men could vote and property qualification for voting was not yet effective so black citizens continued to rely on free African American slaves to participate in local elections even though they technically did not have any votes until after Reconstruction began in 1865. On September 25, 1850, voters approved an act providing for two universities within Dane County: one at UW–Madison (founded as University College) and another at Green Bay (now Wisner University). In December 1860), voters passed an act annexing Racine Township to Dane County; this made it clear that all municipalities within Dane County were intended to be part of the same political entity – something which would continue through most of its history despite various efforts by successive legislatures to break up or divide it into separate jurisdictions pursuant to special plans or needs expressed by various constituencies inside or outside of Dane County itself
