Little Chute, Wisconsin is a village in the town of La Crosse, on the east side of the Kettle River in southeastern Wisconsin. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. Little Chute is home to many small businesses and agriculture businesses as well as a few large ones. The Village Board oversees all aspects of village life; including but not limited to: zoning, fire safety, policing and development issues. The Village Board also has authority over village finances and spends an annual budget of $5 million dollars. The Village Board meets the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. It has six members who are elected by popular vote for three-year terms with no possibility for re-election after one term. The current President of the Village Board is Kathy Linnan (D). In 1854, Hiram Morse founded what would become Little Chute after coming from Watertown, Massachusetts in search of his sons David and Jonathan which he had left behind when he moved westward in 1849 from Plymouth County, Connecticut into Racine County, Wisconsin Territory following his marriage to Anna Cookbachsonthe daughter of Abraham Cookbach Sr., a Norwegian immigrant who had come to America about 1818 with his family wagon train under the auspices ofator Nathan Parker. Hiram Morse built a log dam on the Kettle River near present day La Crosse so that he could sell water rights to farmers downstream while still being able to use Lake Michigan water for irrigation purposes back east where he lived and worked until his death in 1865 at age 73 years old (He died very suddenly due to apoplexy) In 1892 Halsey & Company moved their sawmill from its original location just upriver from where they now stand on Half Moon Road north across Maple Street bridge over Kettle River between Sunnyside Drive and Holyoke Avenue back into what is now part of Little Chute Village; it continued operations until 1978 when it closed because there were no more buyers for its lumber product In 1898 George Prentice erected buildings south side railroad tracks between Main Street Bridge over Kettle River near present day intersection with US Highway 12/Thornberry Road west (now Thornberry Rd.) north (GPS coordinates 36° 21′ 42″ N 94° 04′ 08″ W) about 1 ½ miles southeast corner or northeast corner off US Highway 12/Thornberry Rd . Little Chute is located in the town of Rock County, Wisconsin, about 30 miles northwest of Milwaukee. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. Little Chute was organized as a village in 1872 and became a town in 1902. The first settlers to Little Chute were three families who arrived in 1836. They were the Hecht family, John Hecht and his wife Catharine (née Kapp), and their two children, John and Martha Hecht. In 1840, David J. Potter set up a shop on the east side of the river near present-day First Avenue and Siskiyou Boulevard. In 1849 he married Rebecca Greenough; they had six children: David (1850-1924), Sarah (1851-1922), Harry Potter (1853-1931), Edwin Potter (1855-1920), Alice Potter (1858-1945) and James Greenough (1860-1945). In 1865 Amos Hargrave moved from Illinois to Rock County with his family; they took up land at what is now north end of Main Street. Amos built a log cabin on this site and named it "Moses." In 1868 he married Meta Ladd; they had three children: Meta Hargrave (b. 1865), Clarence Hargrave Jr., Jr.(b. 1870) He also raised cows on what is now south side of Main Street for four years before moving them to where they are today northeast corner of First Avenue between Herrick Road and Nicholson Road/Hercules Road/Moses Road/Piper's Lane
