As Kaukauna, Wisconsin residents know, the National Guard is a vital part of our town’s history. The Kaukauna Guard has been providing safety and support to the community since 1881. The first national guard unit in Kaukauna was organized on November 12th, 1881. The unit was composed of three grenadiers from the 1st Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment (now the 36th Infantry Regiment) and two sailors from the USS Constitution (1837-1846). Attached to this unit were two mounted rifle companies. These early units served as militia until September 21st, 1882 when President James K. Polk signed an act authorizing members of state militias to be called into federal service for three years with no possibility of recall or reduction in strength. On October 1st, 1882, a second act was passed authorizing members of state militias to join any ordered Federal military forces while they were on duty “in aid of the officer commanding such force” or in case of war with Mexico. In order for these troops to become effective, it was necessary for them to receive formal training and be equipped with modern weapons and equipment. This training began on January 10th, 1883 under General Winfield Scott Hancock at Fort Snelling and continued until May 3rd under General John J Pershing at Camp Randall near Madison Junction. From all this effort, Kaukauna formed its own armored company that first served in garrison duty at Camp Randall before being transferred to Little Rock Army Air Field northeast of Green Bay on July 20th 1944 as part of Operation Market Garden which ended World War II

The original unit included twenty-four officers and men. It was disbanded on February 10, 1919 due to the Great Depression. However, it was reactivated on May 1, 1949 and served as a local reserve force until its disbandment in 1970. During its time as a national guard unit, the Kaukauna National Guard had two deployments to Vietnam and one deployment to Cambodia.
Kaukauna, Wisconsin is a small town in the Kankakee County of Illinois. It is located on the east bank of the Kankakee River, about 20 miles (32 km) south-west of Chicago. The population was 2,057 at the 2010 census. The village was founded in 1854 by Captain John Kaukauna and his wife and daughter, Anna Kaukauna. The first post office was established in 1855. The village became a incorporated town in 1912. On November 5, 1951, Kaukauna had its first tornado outbreak when an EF2 tornado touched down near the town limits and caused some damage. On March 7, 1957, an EF3 tornado struck the village; it killed one person and injured several others. In 1978–1979 Hauppauge Township merged with Kaukauna to form a single municipality with a population of 3,841 people; however this merger did not take effect because Hauppauge Township failed to meet all requirements for incorporation as required by state law. In 2000–2001 Kaukauna annexed part of Hennepin County for economic reasons. In 2006 Davenport City annexed parts of Kankakee County for economic reasons. In 2011 Wauconda annexed parts of Kane County for economic reasons. In 2013 Menasha annexes Spooner County.

Kaukauna, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 5,953 at the 2010 census, down from 6,898 in 2000. Kaukauna is located in the Ozaukee County region of the Midwest. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area and is bordered by Green Bay to the east and south, Racine to the west and north, Menomonee Falls to the northwest and Superior to the northeast. The Town of Kaukauna was organized on February 14, 1846 by order of Governor John Pohl as one of five towns within Ozaukee County created from parts of Marquette Township. The first courthouse was built in 1852 and it served as a county seat until 1856 when Racine took over that responsibility. Kaukauna was named after Captain James Kukla who explored this area in 1792 while on his journey through what is now Wisconsin with his American Fur Company partner Pierre LaFontaine. Kukla's map showed an area near present-day Kaukauna where he hoped to find water for his fur trade enterprise but found no suitable sites available for settlement due to Native American resistance to European settlers encroaching into their land. In 1836 Captain George Akeley founded what became Milwaukee based upon his discovery that Lake Michigan could be tapped for oil reserves nearsby which led him to found Eau Claire three years later followed by Waukesha two years later both settlements being part ofMilwaukee County until it was divided into DuPage counties in 1896 following Winnetka's purchase of all those lands from Ziegler heirs including Kaukauna In 1862 Captain Peter Schofield established a ferry terminal at Cross Roads on Menomonee River shipping goods between Milwaukee and points downstream including Racine, Kenosha and Oshkosh along with passengers traveling upriver for fishing or pleasure purposes as well as troops during America's Civil War era transportation hub connecting river systems across state lines One year laterCaptain John Sutter established another ferry terminal at Port Washington on Petermann Creek Shipping goods between Marinette (now Marinette Heights) upstream along with passengers traveling upriver for pleasure purposes only
Kaukauna was founded on the banks of the Kukawa River in 1847 by German immigrants. The town grew rapidly and by 1872, it had a population of over 1,000 people. Kaukauna became an important shipping center due to its location at the confluence of several rivers. The town also developed a strong business community and became known for its production of lumber, cheese, and other goods. In 1916, Kaukauna was renamed to Milwaukee after merger with other towns in the area.
