Kaukauna is a town in the Wisconsin State Capitol district, located in the southeast corner of the state. As of the 2010 census, Kaukauna had a population of 8,621. It is also part of the Racine-Kenosha Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit what is now Kaukauna was François Marquette on his trip from Green Bay to Michilimackinac in 1634. Jesuit missionary Father Jacques Marquette landed at this location on May 10, 1779 and named it after Saint Catherine of Alexandria (1553–1625), who had been martyred at Rome two years earlier. On July 6, 1837, Territory of Wisconsin were organized when Minnesota was admitted into the United States as a state. On December 29th following Minnesota's admission into the Union as a state, title to all land east of the Mississippi River was given by Territorial Governor John C. Fremont to David Rice and James Molineux for lack of titles or other claims thereto! The land that became Kaukauna was within this newly created territory. The village site lay just southwest of present day downtown Kaukauna on both banks of US Highway 12A between mileposts 252 and 253 in what is now rural Walworth County; when Milwaukee County was formed from parts of Dakota Territory on August 26, 1858 it included most or all eastern shoreline including Kaukauna with its few homes built before then! In 1868 when Milwaukee County was divided into circles along territorial lines – one going clockwise around Milwaukee County while another went counterclockwise – Kaufmanaunee made up part but not entirety cirle which patrolled east side only until 1915 when they merged with Kenosha County’s west side cirle forming today’s Racine-Kenosha metropolitan area! Kaukauna, Wisconsin was originally settled by the Menominee in the early 1800s. The area around Kaukauna was first used for hunting and fishing. In 1842, the United States acquired Kaukauna from Sweden as part of the Treaty of Paris following the American Revolution. The treaty resulted in America taking control of all Native American land east of the Mississippi River. Wisconsin began to grow rapidly after it became a state in 1848. On November 7, 1850,Congress passed an act that annexation of Minnesota would bring Kaukauna into Wisconsin as well. The town was incorporated on December 12, 1853. In 1861, Kaukauna had a population of just over 100 people and was home to one school and one store. However, during World War II, Kaukauna became an important military base due to its strategic location at the junction of two major highways connecting Chicago with Minneapolis and Milwaukee. In 1950, when Wisconsin merged with Michigan Territory (now Michigan), Kaukauna became part of Marquette County and remains so today. The community has experienced many changes throughout its history including being abandoned for a time due to lack of water resources; becoming a center for economic development after becoming connected to Marquette County via county roads; experiencing rapid growth in recent decades due to its proximity to major metropolitan areas; and most recently being known for its annual pumpkin festival which is now considered an international event
Kaukauna is located in the town of Kaukauna, Wisconsin and is a census-designated place (CDP). The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census.
