Janesville, Wisconsin is a town in Cass County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 7,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The Janesville Post Office opened in 1855 and closed in 1975. The Janesville, Wisconsin Armed Forces Reserve Command has a long and proud military history. The organization was formed on December 4, 1916 as the Army National Guard Armory Corporation. It was later renamed the Army National Guard Department of Defense in 1948. The department was activated on November 1, 1951 as the Minnesota National Guard Armory Corporation. The armory became operational at Janesville Municipal Airport on October 26, 1955. On July 9, 1959, it became the Janesville Arsenal and Ammunition Plant when it merged with the Janesville Municipal Ammunition Company to form that company’s parent corporation – American Arms Incorporated. On May 10, 1961, American Arms Incorporated merged with United States Paper Millennium Corp., also located in Janesville to become United States Paper & Manufacturing Corporation (USP&M). That company was organized on October 20 of that year as an ammunition manufacturer and storage facility for United States Paper products including paper bullets and other small arms ammunition. In 1985 USP&M closed its doors due to economic difficulties and ceased operations in Janesville after more than seventy years of production! In 1990 American Arms Incorporated reorganized under the name Midwest Weapons Systems LLC effective January 1st of that year. At this time Midwest Weapons Systems consisted of two divisions: manufacturing ammunition for law enforcement agencies; and sales and marketing support services to dealers throughout Illinois/Wisconsin/Minnesota! Janesville is a small town in the town of Janesville, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. Janesville is home to the Janesville-Waukesha County High School and the Janesville Public Library. The first settlers in what is now Janesville were Dutch people who arrived around 1636. The area that includes present-day Janesville was settled by Germans in 1839. A post office called "Janesville" was established in 1847, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1903. In 1854, a group of farmers from Illinois organized the Townshend Association to buy land west of Milwaukee for village development. On July 1, 1855, they set up a government with twelve members: six men (one an elector), four women (including Julia Childs), and two children (ages five and seven). They named their new settlement after William Sherer, one of their members. Underthe new organization system, every man had vote but no woman could run for office or hold any public position without male approval; all decisions were made through consensus voting. The first school building was built on May 12,1857; it burned down soon afterwards but provided instruction for many years thereafter using temporary structures including a barn used as a gymnasium until 1909 when an permanent building was erected on State Street near Union Park which still serves as the school's centerpiece today In 1865-66 there was also construction of another school building on West Broadway which served grades K-12 until 1922 When that building also caught fire it became part of State Street Museum today known as "The Strauss Building". In 1898 a third school building also became operational at this location which served grades PreK-6th grade until 1953 when it too caught fire becoming part of Museum today known as "Strickland School." The current high school Building opened its doors on October 28th 1990 . In 1905 there were also buildings constructed east off US Highway 45 across from city limits known as "Boyd Farm" these buildings have since been torn down and replaced with new homes . These early dwellings are examples of Bungalow style architecture which continued into the 20th century

Janesville is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the north side of the Madison River. As of the 2010 census, the population was 26,814. The name Janesville was given to the town in 1838 by General David Logan and committee member Ira Brownell. The first post office in Janesville was established in 1836. It is one of several towns which were founded near Madison during Wisconsin's initial settlement by European Americans following their victory over Native American troops at Battle of Green Bay in 1814. In 1850, Janesville became a village and remained so until 1959 when it became a town under Wisconsin's new municipal government system. The area now called Janesville was originally known as Cedar Creek Township (now Beaver Dam). The original inhabitants were Potawatomi Indians who lived along the river between what is now Maple Street and White Road east of present-day Decatur Avenue. A United States Post Office was established at Cedar Creek in 1836, and soon after two stores and one school were built there. In 1840, General David Logan named the new town after him for his role in helping to expel British forces fromWisconsin during the War of1812 (the same year that Battle of Green Bay occurred). In 1850, Janesville became part of Racine County when it was created from parts of Milwaukee County based on land won at battle between American militia forces led by General David Lane and Native American warriors led by Chief Tecumseh Sherman on August 16th, 1846 near what is now Sawmill Point on Milwaukee's North Branch River.
