Janesville, Wisconsin is a town in the Ozaukee County of Wisconsin, United States. The population was 7,636 at the 2010 census. It is the hometown of Mike Krieger and Tim Hortons coffee company founder Richard Hunt. The Janesville Coffee Company was founded in 1876 by John A. Sacket and Oliver Hazard Perry as a small-scale roaster and grocery store. In 1899, the company moved to its current location on Easton Avenue near State Street. The Janesville Coffee Company became one of the first local institutions to sell pre-packaged coffee beans online in 2007. In 2008, it merged with nearby Waukesha's Towne Coffee Company to form Waukesha County Coffee Cooperative Inc., which continues to operate as a subsidiary of Janesville Coffee Cooperative today. Janesville has been host to many notable coffee events over the years including World Cup qualifying matches for both men's and women's soccer, WI Open golf tournaments, SCA finals meetings for rifle shooting and wrestling, WisConference baseball games between UW–Madison and UW Milwaukee, WIState Fair fireworks displays

The Janesville-Wausau Metropolitan Statistical Area had a population of 17,834 as of July 1, 2014. The town was platted in 1846 by David Wilkinson and John A. Nicholson. It took its name from General Winfield Scott's brigade that fought in the Mexican-American War under Ulysses S. Grant. After the war, the Union army burned what remains of the town to destroy evidence of their victory. In 1867, Janesville acquired land east of downtown for a new municipal courthouse and jail which were completed in 1868 with assistance from then-Governor Abraham Lincoln's administration. The first post office was established in Janesville on November 3rd, 1867 by Jno Higginson; it operated until 1865 when it was moved to Mankato and reopened on November 2nd under George Wirths as Janesville Post Office #1 In 1870–71 Captain John C. Bales served as the first janitor for Janesville Municipal Building while also holding other positions within City Hall including Superintendent of Sewers and Collector of Taxes In 1915 Wausau became an incorporated village but retains most aspects of its smalltown character such as an independent school board and fire department which are not part of Janesville Township government . Today there are no stores or services located within city limits so residents must travel into neighboring towns for essential functions like shopping or simply needing medical attention . The first permanently settled residents were landowner farmers from England who moved to what is now Janesville in 1836. They cleared and built homes on donated land, likely inspired by John C. Fremont's exploration of Lake Michigan in 1836-37 that led him to proclaim "The New World" accessible for settlement east of the Mississippi River. In 1846, a group of German immigrants founded the town on a tract they had bought from Dutch settlers west of Milwaukee; it became one of eleven townships organized into Racine County when Racine County was created from portions of Milwaukee Township and Wexford Township on December 15, 1851. In 1860, Janesville's great-grandfather Hans Jenssen started a sawmill onontee Creek which produced lumber until 1903 when it closed due to lack of demand for wood products after railroads came through town; this mill helped contribute significantly to early Janesville development as an engineering and construction center during its time as a rural community with few streets and only two blocks long! In 1886, Hargrave & Company began producing cheese here along with other items such as flour, cornmeal, soapstone (a hard volcanic rock used for making mortar), brewer's yeast and candy bars before going outof business in 1910s due to increased competition from national grocery stores! However local interest kept Hargrave open until 1958 when it closed its doors forever after manufacturing more than 1 million cases! In 1916 industrialist Harry Emerson Fosdick invested $2 million dollars into Illinois National Bank which allowed him to open his own bank branch within Janesville – becoming one of only five individuals ever granted such privilege by then- president Woodrow Wilson! With this new wealth came new opportunities for growth including new housing developments (most notably Pemberton Place) while also allowing Wisconesan businesses access to American markets; this period also marked significant changes within both local governmental structures as well as shifts in economic power within the city itself!! After World War II stagnation set in as wartime production halted while Americans returned home; however Reutherstown annexed neighboring village Green Bay creating another economic powerhouse within town limits!!!
