The Janesville Air Force Base was first established in 1942 as an air force base. The base saw service during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. In 1961, Janesville AFB was transferred to the United States Air Force and became one of the first three USAF bases in Wisconsin. Today, Janesville AFB is a major hub for USAF operations in Wisconsin and Illinois. The base has over 50 thousand residents who support its mission of providing safe and secure airspace to Americans and their allies around the world. In honor of our military community at Janesville AFB, we are honoring airforce gift history with a series of special events throughout 2018. This year’s festivities will include a fly-in/fly-out parade on Saturday, May 17th; an airshow on Wednesday, September 15th; and a Black Tie dinner on Thursday, December 3rd at the Pentagon Hotel in downtown Milwaukee!

The first aircraft in the USAF was an F-86F Sabre. In Janesville, Wisconsin, Maj. Gen. John P. McConnell, Commander of Air Force Space Command and Joint Chiefs of Staff member, dedicated the first USAF space launch vehicle at a ceremony on July 15th, 1981. The facility at Vandenberg AFB California is known as the "McConnell Spaceport".
Janesville is a town in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 14,871 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the five towns in Waukesha County by population. The first Europeans to visit what is now Janesville were French fur traders who came through the area in 1634 and 1635. The first permanent settler in Janesville was John Norwood, who arrived in 1776. He founded a small farm on the present site of Janesville Township. By 1836, most of present-day Janesville had been developed as part of the Town of Milwaukee. In 1854, a railroad line was built through Janesville and it became a town within one year. In 1865, the town annexd Village of West Allis and its portion east of I-94 became Town of Janesville again; this change took effect when Towns Act No. 113 was passed that year creating Waukesha County; all villageincorporations were dissolved and their lands absorbed into Township boundaries thereafter (except for West Allis). On July 1, 1907, portions of East Troy were annexed to Janesville as well; this annexation took place effective September 1st because Town Act No 117 went into effect on that date authorizing township incorporation with out Village status (the villages being incorporations only underTownship ordinance laws). At its peak population in 1910 there were over 20 businesses operating in downtownJanesville; today there are just six businesses open Downtown including two strip malls which have closed down due to lack of traffic or competition from other shopping centers near by or online retailers such as Walmart and Target etc.; retail development has continued to decline throughout much OfWaukesha County since then primarily due to economic conditions outside those specific areas such as along I-94 corridor where job growth has come largely from nonresidential projects like churches and schools expanding beyond their original land uses/ Facilities limitations/ opposition from certain business owners etc.). One exception has been recent redevelopment efforts around Our Lady Of Peace Parish Center off Hwy 83 which started about 2008 with new construction including an arena for ice hockey operations which included full roofing capacity & stateoftheart lighting & sound system beginning play in fall 2011 followed by an expansion project that added more classrooms & office space totaling 350+ square feet bringing total usable surface area up to 840 sqft (& additional parking) making it oneofthelargest parish center developments ever seen anywhere!
