The first Europeans to visit what is now Hudson were Dutchmen and their families, who arrived in 1812. They named the area after a small town in Holland, which they saw on their travels. Over time, other groups arrived in America and began Toasting Coffee Packers out of Hennepin County, Minnesota in 1846. This company became world-renowned for its quality coffee beans and eventually left Hudson for good. In 1865, Dutchman Cornelius Van der Kamp opened a small grocery store near present day University Avenue and State Street in Hudson. He began selling coffee beans from his shop until his death in 1922. Dutchman Gerson Bleeker opened a cafe at 911 S Drake Ave., east of downtown Hudson, on October 1st 1889.Bleeker's cafe was one of the first successful cafes west of the Mississippi River and quickly became known for its excellent coffee products. His customers included many dignitaries from across America including Presidents McKinley and Roosevelt. Bleeker's cafe closed its doors on May 31st 1951 after failing to make it through prohibition era regulations that made it difficult to sell alcohol without breaking law. In 1925, Fred Ziegler purchased a controlling interest in The Daily Review Newspaper Company which he used as an opportunity to open up numerous new businesses throughout Wisconsin including several restaurants such as Bijou Cafe & Bakery (now known as City Winery), The Café du Jour (now known as French Laundry), New Amsterdam Tavern & Brewery (later renamed The Brewery), The Empire Club Lounge (later renamed Capital Grille) and Starlite Cafe (& Bar). Ziegler also operated two retail stores - Radio Shack at 826 E State St., Suite 1010; later operations were moved to 11 E Main St., Suite 701 - all within walking distance of each other on South Division Street between First National Bank Tower and University Avenue/State Street。Ziegler died suddenly on December 4th 1957 during construction of Interstate 94 near Waukesha County Airport leaving behind unfinished business interests throughout Wisconsin..In 1978 Ziegler brothers ownership stake was sold along with assets located at 1117 S 2nd St #1012 by Milwaukee based private equity firm Capital Cities Broadcasting Incorporated for $1 million to Milwaukee based businessman James Dickey..Dickey reorganized Capital Cities Broadcasting into ABC Corporation which owned most US television networks..ABC Corporation initially leased space from Prenda Ventures LLC under terms that would allow them exclusive use of Prenda Ventures’s trademarked name "Hudson" beginning airing programming originating from ABC Studios located at One West Side Drive adjacent to Perot Plaza mall.. On January 1st 1990 ABC Corporation relocated their primary studios from OneWest Side Drive into renovated former Macy’s building at 627 N State St., suite 1080 following years efforts by then Mayor Tom Barrett to bring more jobs back into town during his second term as mayor...On November 3rd 1998 ABC Corporation announced plans to close down their corporate headquarters effective December 31st 1999 due to financial difficulties resulting from increased competition from digital media companies such as Fox Interactive Media LLP (FIM).......Since then various attempts have been made by local business owners or entrepreneur groups interested parties outside ABC Corp

By 1920, Hudson had become an agricultural center with more than 100 businesses employing over 1,000 people. The economy has since slumped due to decreased industrial activity and low jobs available for workers with college degrees or above. However, the community remains proud of its history and culture which includes strong ties to Norway and Scandinavian countries.
