Hudson is a small town in the town of Hudson, Wisconsin. The population was 971 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Waukesha County, Wisconsin, area. The first European to see and name Hudson was Nicholas-Jacques Marquette in 1805. The name may be derived from Oneida, an Iroquois people who lived near present-day Hudson. There is no evidence that the tribe ever inhabited or interacted with the people of what is now Hudson Township. A post office was established at Hudson in 1836, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1903. In 1854, James Aiken founded a sawmill on the north side of the river near present day Winamac Avenue. The mill became known as Aiken's Mill after James Aiken's son, Alexander Aiken Jr., bought it and continued operations as a mill until 1911. It has been reported that during one year (1855), there were 21 steamboats visitations to and from Hudson by passengers on boats called "The Garter" and "The Hindenburg". As early as 1785 there had been at least two land grants given to men named Houghton - one which included 375 acres (1 km²) located between what are now North First Street and South First Street; another grant including 10 acres (40 m²) on either side of State Highway 54 east of present day State Highway 63 also within present day Hudson Township went unclaimed for years because it extended into other townships across this county before finally being claimed by Houghtonstown Residents Association Incorporated according to deed dated October 6th 1861 . A group led by Drury Sargent purchased 1/4 mile (0.6 km²) northeast corner lot on Center Street between Highways 54 & 63 for $2 per acre (0). Hudson, Wisconsin is a town in Outagamie County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,512 at the 2010 census. Hudson was founded in 1854 by Captain John A. Hudson and his wife Anna Maria. It became a town in 1907. The present-day town of Hudson was created from part of the former village of Hubbardston (now part of Oshkosh). Hudson is located on the eastern edge of Outagamie County and measures just over square miles (1 km²). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. As of the census [10] of 2000, there were 912 people, 383 households, and 248 families residing in the town. The population density was 25 people per square mile (11/km²). There were 423 housing units at an average density of 13 per square mile (5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98% White and 2% African American. Hispanic or Latinoof any race were 0% of the population. There are 383 households out of which 31% had children underthe age OF 15 living with them, 50% were married couples living together, 10% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40% were non-families. 34%of all households were made up OF Children under 15 years old; 8%, primarily due to parental death or disappearance; 5%, due to illness; 3%, due to migration; 2%, unrelated personal guest); 12% had someone 65 years or older living alone who cared for him or her full time; 2%; none
Hudson was founded by the Dutch in 1624 as a trading post on the outflow of the Wisconsin River. The name came from Hudson's Bay, where traders collected furs. The first permanent settler in what is now Hudson County was Peter Knyazevich, who arrived in 1776. In 1836, part of Iowa Territory was added to Hudson County and it became a county within the United States.
