Hartford, Wisconsin is located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 153,966. The National Guard Armory is located in Hartford and was built as part of a statewide program to arm soldiers and police officers throughout the United States during World War II. It was designed by architect Harry Weese and opened in 1944. The National Guard Armory has been used for military functions both before and after the war, including speeches by U.S. presidents, meetings with local officials, parades and other events. The gift history of the National Guard Armory can be traced back to 1940 when it was donated to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department by Mayor John Wentworth Jr.. At that time it was one of only two Armories in Wisconsin which were not owned or leased by government agencies; the other being Capitol Arsenal in Madison (now University Park). The donation allowed for its use as a facility for county law enforcement activities as well as storage for munitions used during World War II. In 1951 it became known asarmory number 2 when armory number 1 was destroyed in an airplane bombing raid; this designation lasted until 1966 when armory number 3 was added due to its importance within national guard forces associated with that year's Operation Neptune's Spear -the Tet Offensive against North Vietnam

Hartford, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in and the county seat of Dane County. The name "Hartford" comes from Hartford-on-the-Hudson River which was once one of the most important cities in New England. The first permanent settler in what is now Hartford was James Ginty who settled on a farm near present day Watertown on April 15, 1836. Ginty's brother John also founded Hartwick (now Waukesha) after moving to this area from Deerfield Township, Massachusetts in 1837. The first post office was established in Hartford on July 1, 1840. The town grew rapidly during the early 19th century due to its location at the junction of two major trade routes: The Great Lakes Road and Menomonee River Road. In 1846, when Milwaukee became a city, Hartford lost its status as an incorporated village and became part of Milwaukee County under state law which exempted towns with a population over 10,000 from being subject to city zoning ordinances

Hartford has been inhabited by Native Americans for more than 10,000 years and was known as Xa-ha-ta-ni (meaning "The Place Where The Deer Live"). Hartford first came to prominence as a fur trade community during the 18th century when it became an important staging post on the Great Lakes region. By 1800, Hartford had become an important center for agriculture based on its location near major waterways and its access to markets. In 1852, when Milwaukee became Illinois' capital, Hartford lost its importance as a trading post and developed into a manufacturing town focused on textiles and other cottage industries. However, during World War II it emerged as one of the few American cities that did not fall victim tobombing raids by Japan after Detroit's destruction; Hartford instead prospered through military production sales relationships with federal entities such as United States Aircraft Corporation (USAC). In later decades Hartford's economy shifted towards services while retaining its manufacturing base; however recent efforts have seen some resurgence in Manufacturing activity withinthe city limits Today, Hartford is known for its vibrant arts scene which includes many local galleries and performance venues . It has also become increasingly popular for outdoor activities such as hiking/biking/sport fishing or hunting offshoot species such as whitetail deer or bear.
