Hartford, Wisconsin was founded in 1837 by Solomon Lackman and his wife Esther. The city is located on the west side of the Milwaukee River, just east of the state line with Illinois. In 1840, George R. Martin founded the first grocery store in Hartford. In 1855, John Fenton opened a bakery in Hartford. By 1870, Hartford had become an important manufacturing center for coffee and other agricultural products. The Hartsell family operated a coffee shop in downtown Hartford from 1898 to 1912. In 1916, J.B. Sauer founded Sauer & Co., one of the largest coffee companies in America at that time. During World War II, Hartford produced over one million pounds of Coffee Jars for American troops overseas! After the war ended, many businesses closed their doors but new ones such as Hildebrandt's Department Store (now called Walmart) were born which continue to thrive today!

The Hartford Coffee Company was founded in 1876 by George Wickersham and his brothers Eli and John Wickersham. They sold coffee beans from their house on State Street in Hartford until 1929.

It is the 6th most populous municipality in Wisconsin and the most populous city in Milwaukee County. It lies on the Fox River between Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties to its north and east, with a population density of 2,752 people per square kilometer (1,098/sq mi). The first Europeans to visit what is now Hartford were French traders who journeyed upriver from Lake Superior in 1643-44 looking for fur trade opportunities. The name “Hartford” derives from Old English hart meaning “fortress” or “place of safety”; cf., modern day Helsinki, Finland. A Dutch settlement called Fort Stuyvesant was founded in 1664 by Governor Peter Minuit as part of an effort to secure land grants from France for New Netherland colonies; it was abandoned about 1715 after French forces destroyed it during the French and Indian War (1710-1763). A group of Mennonite settlers arrived here in 1847; they named their community "Hartford" because they had been sent there as missionaries by General James Kappes under orders from President George Washington to convert Native Americans living west of portage la Prairie into Christianity. The townspeople voted not to rename themselves "Mennonite City" until 1951 when that name reverted back to Hartford after Mennonite Central Committee made a donation for that purpose. In 1848 an Act became effective providing Forrster Township with a post office; this township had no inhabitants when it was organized but soon grew into one of northwestern Wisconsin's largest towns due largely to exports conducted through its ports—now known as Harbor Springs Naval Shipyard on Waushara Bay—and also due increasing agricultural production around Watertown Heights and other areas near downtown Hartford. Growth accelerated following incorporation as a village on November 3, 1881 by virtue of an act approved by Congress which added $5,000 ($100 par value) toward development costs for such communities within each newly created county – becoming one of only two villages set up outside Chicago metropolitan area before annexation occurred six years later: another example illustrating how railroads stimulated growth throughout northwest Wisconsin during this period.* To help finance rapid annexations during this time many local businesses contributed capital or labor towards construction projects including dams across the Fox River along with numerous schools and churches substantially increasing NorthwesternWisconsin's occupational diversity††† In 1915 Purdue University erected Hartfords Memorial Library–one among several colleges/universities established within Connecticut radial towns program* Hartfords Memorial Library still services customers today! As coffee beans became more accessible and affordable, the demand for quality artisan coffee continued to increase. Over time, different regions of the world have developed their own unique brewing methods and roasted styles of coffee that have influenced the popular culture and cuisine around the globe. One of the earliest artisanal roasters in history was Peet's Coffee & Tea in Berkeley, California. Peet's began small-scale roasting in 1969 and soon became known for its high-quality Arabica beans. In 1984, Peet's merged with Dutch caffeine giant Nederlandse Koffiehuizen (NK) to form one of the largest coffee conglomerates in the world. NK still operates as a separate business entity today. The production process atNK has been highly hands-on since its inception – each bean is roasted by hand on site before it is released into stores across Europe. This ensures that every batch of espresso is incredibly unique and specialised, which contributes to their prized reputation for quality and flavor. Some of the most well-known brands that are associated with NK include L’Atelier de la Cafeteria (a café located in Paris), Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, La Maroquinera (a seafood restaurant located in Buenos Aires), Girodias (an Italian wine store located in Venice), Espresso Nero (an espresso chain based out of Rome), and many more. Many smaller independent roasters also started up during this time period, such as Counterpoint Coffee (based out of Boston), The Common Ground Coffee Company (based out of New York City), Bouchon Coffee Company (based out of Philadelphia), Four Barrel Coffee Roasters LLC (based out of Portland, Oregon), Ritual Coffee Roasters LLC(based out OFSCoPEE from Providence RI)), Starbuck's Vintage Roasting Company Inc.(owned by Starbucks Corporation) – all operating under different branding or under different ownership structures than larger companies like Peet's or NK. Each individual roaster had their own distinct style and ethos which continues to be enjoyed by today's consumers around the world!
