He had been part of an American Expedition that fought against Mexico at Monterrey Bayou in 1846-48. When he arrived in Greenfield he found land totaling over 2 square miles and decided to buy it all together including what is now downtown Greenfield from James Fenton on December 12th, 1850. The first courthouse building stood on this location until 1907 when it burned down as part of a larger firestorm that destroyed most buildings in Greenfield during the Great Chicago Fire of 1886 During this time period much focus shifted towards farming instead of gun ownership which led to less demand for rifles/firearms outside of militaries/law enforcement forces which continued up until today . Greenfield was a small town in Wisconsin before the Great Depression. The population was 4,000 in 1930, but by 1940 it had fallen to 1,500. In the early years of World War II, Greenfield became an Army training camp for soldiers from all over Wisconsin and Illinois. After the war ended, the town slowly recovered and by 1970 it had increased to 3,000 residents. Today, Greenfield is a bedroom community for Milwaukee County with a population of over 10,000 people. The history of Greenfield goes back to 1853 when Isaac Butt (1798-1864) came to the area from Canada and founded a small farm called Butt's Corners on what is now North Main Street. In 1857 John Decatur bought Butt's Corners and moved his family there; they named their new settlement Greenfield after him. The first school in Greenfeldt Township was built in 1861; it eventually became known as Friendship School. In 1875 Frédéric de la Motte erected a store on West Third Street which became one of the most successful businesses in Greenfield during the early 20th century. The store operated until 1954 when it closed down due to competition from nearby Sears Roebuck& Co.; however, friendliness never disappeared from Greenfeldt Township –Friendship Elementary continues to operate today as an independent First Grade School underprivileged children can attend without charge! The post-World War II boom that followed brought more jobs and prosperity to Greeneoldtowne – everything from trucking services to electronics manufacturing sprang up during this time period! However, as technology advanced and employment shifted away from older industries towards new high-tech fields throughout much of America during this time period (think: Silicon Valley), many families lost out on opportunities that would have seen them rise above poverty levels if not for economic fluctuations like those experienced by Greeneoldtowne residents between 1929-1945! Greenfield, Wisconsin was founded in 1847 by General John C. Fremont and his wife, Catherine H. Fremont. The town grew rapidly due to its natural resources, such as timber and corn. By 1870, Greenfield had a population of 1,500 people and was the largest municipality in the Fox Valley region. In 1872, Greenfield became the first village in the state of Wisconsin to be granted city status. The city prospered thanks to its growing library, social services, and other industries. However, during World War II Greenfield was hit hard by the Depression and experienced severalminent loss of jobs. After the war ended in 1945, Greenfield experienced another period of growth which led to a significant increase in population size over the next decade. However, during this time there were also problems with crime and traffic congestion which caused some erosion of City Hall's authority over residents.
