The USS Constitution was donated to the Navy by Mrs. John C. Frémont and her husband Colonel Jesse Frémont and it served as a hospital ship during the Korean War. It also served as a training vessel for Naval Aviator pilots. The USS Enterprise ( flagship of the 5th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry) arrived in Grafton on December 3, 1951. It was donated to the Navy by Mrs. John C Frémont and her husband Colonel Jesse Frémont and it served as a hospital ship during the Vietnam War before being sold to Taiwan in 1974 and serving there until 1987 when she was withdrawn from service and stricken from naval registry. USS Porter (assault boat) arrived in Grafton on September 8, 1957. It was donated to the Navy by Mrs John C Frémont and her husband Colonel Jesse Frémont and it served as an assault boat during World War II before being sold to Greece in 1967 where it remained until 1988 when she was withdrawn from service and stricken from naval registry.

Grafton is a town in Douglas County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–West Allis–Menominee Metropolitan Statistical Area. Grafton was founded in 1854 by John F. Grafton and his wife Rebecca as a small log cabin community on the banks of the Menominee River. The name comes from an ancient English settlement called Grangeborough near Newark-upon-Trent in England. Grafton has been inhabited by Native Americans for over 4,000 years according to archaeological evidence found throughout the area. In 1763, French traders discovered land that would become Grafton and named it after Jean-Jacques Rousseau's home village of Grangeborough in Normandy, France. British explorer David Thompson explored the area in 1786 and named it after George Washington's Mount Vernon estate on which Washington had lived during his presidency (the first U.S president to live permanently in a building). In 1818, John Fenton purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) along the Menominee River from Nicholas Biddle for $2 per acre ($128 per square mile). He built what would become known as "Fenton’s Ford", one of the earliest towns in America and one of its earliest commercial centers dating back to when men could travel far enough downriver to trade goods with Native American tribes living upstream. Fenton became an important player in early government and politics in this region and served as both Mayor of Green Bay (1846-48) and Lieutenant Governor (1849-50) before dying at age 81 years old while serving as President George Washington's private secretary during his final term as President James K Polk's Vice President from 1868-72%. The legislature designated Grafton Township on November 3, 1852 (), based on surveys made by Jno Aitken about that time; however, no town meeting was held until December 10th when five residents met to organize themselves into a Town Board under Wm Houghton were elected unanimously.. On January 2nd 1863', four more residents who were not affected by Aitken's survey voted into office making theirTownBoard permanent thereby creating 'Grafton'. Thereafter there never again was any need for meetings until 1860 when they were finally held annually during February due to increased growth that had taken place since Aitken's survey/town board election earlier that year! On October 6th 1861' Isaac Noland donated 501 acres (27 hectares) including present day downtown core streetscape property eastward onto state highway 53 south westward towards Milwaukee which formed what is now known as Noland Park! This donation set off an era where donations like this continued unabated throughout most of North America becoming known today as Community Development Financial Institutions or CDFI’s!. It wasn't until after mining operations ceased around 1900 that things began really picking up for Grafton with development beginning primarily around Factory Row which ran parallel to Main Street running along State Highway 12W between First National Bank Building/Old Post Office & Masonic Temple/Airlift Landing dockyards just north of present day State Highway 53 & east across river towards current day Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company Building/Former post office / Casino next door along route 12W)! However much later still another major development occurred starting with construction beginning on Maynard Street immediately southwesterly side of Main Street just past today Interstate 94 & continuing northeasterly past IHwy 52 junction (& current site of Old First National Bank Building), eventually leading all the way southeastward via Elmira Road through downtown coresparked between two large warehouses then turning northeastwesterly towards current day Trump Tower!!
