Germantown is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the eastern bank of the Menominee River. The population was 9,563 at the 2010 census. The first store was opened by Loring Wray in 1837 and soon afterwards other stores and hotels started to open up in town. In 1876, a sawmill was built along the Menominee River and quickly became one of the most important establishments in town. It continued to be an important factor until it closed its doors for good around 1915. During this time period, many other mills also closed down including two breweries which made it one of the most industrial areas around at that time. However, since 1850, when German immigrants started arriving into America as refugees from Germany (and later Austria), Germantown has been home to some very eminent German American families such as Forbes & Sons lumber merchants; Kuhn & Loeb insurance companies; Rudolph Henson grocery stores; and Carl Sievers Ford dealership until recently when they moved out to Sheboygan Falls Wisconsin because of competition from online retailers like Amazon and Walmart etc..
