Franklin, Wisconsin is home to one of the oldest coffeehouses in the United States. The first coffee house in Franklin was established by Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1792. In 1847, Dr. John W. Spooner opened the first store in Franklin and began trading coffee beans from his farmstead. By 1861, the town had four stores and twenty-four dwellings. The first paper mill was built in Franklin in 1865 and initially manufactured flour for local consumption but soon became known for its roasting and packaging of coffee beans. In 1876, Mr. Samuel French added an oven to their Manufacturing establishment which helped produce more than two thousand pounds of roasted coffee a day for local customers alone! In 1903, Mr. French sold his business to Mrs. John Laughlin who continued to operate it as a grocery until her death in 1957; at that time it reverted back to its original name of Mrs. Laughlin's Coffee House & Cafe!
Franklin, Wisconsin is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Douglas County. The population was 26,865 at the 2010 census. Franklin is the most populous city in Douglas County, but it is not by far the most populous city in Wisconsin. The population of Milwaukee was 143,723 at the 2010 census; Franklin had a population of just over 26,000 people then as well as Elk Grove Village and Racine which have smaller populations yet nonetheless make up part of Franklin's total area. The first white settler in what is now Franklin was James Kapp who arrived on March 12th 1827 from Illinois with his family. He built a log cabin near present-day downtown Franklin on the east side of Marshall Creek (now known as North Branch Waukesha River). Kapp may also have been responsible for building what would become State Pier No. 2 on Sturgeon Lake about one mile north of town center today (Kapps Landing). As early as 1836, there were men living in what became Franklin that owned land or were partners with others that owned land within modern-day Douglas County. Today many residents believe that this community formed around an Indian trading post known as "Moccasin" located on current day South Park Drive just south of downtown (the site where traffic circles are located today). The post operated until 1840 when it burned down due to bad weather and Indians raiding nearby homes during their winter encampment nearby! In 1847, Michael Jenssen moved from Norway towhat would become Franklins farmstead after receiving an inheritance from his father-in-law Jacob Jensen who had died some time earlier while gold Fever raged through western Wisconsin."This place looks so desolate", said Michael Jenssen upon arrival and soon began construction on his home which he called "The Farm". After years OF hard work they finished their house in 1856 which still stands today across from City Hall/City Hall Annexe on Main Street between First Avenue and West State Street.. In 1870 WI voters approved a $10 per capita tax for public schools establishing Racine Public School District #1 followed by another $2 per capita tax for school improvement purposes established by Act 5365 passed December 20th 1870 making Racine village incorporated into Douglas County." This act created municipal government for village areas within Douglas County including: authorizes creation or addition to cities or townships; sets boundaries for elections; defines powers and duties thereof; establishes rights and qualifications for mayorsand other officers etc.; revived interest among settlers in locating hereabouts because railroads were being constructed closer to them." By 1880 there were over 400 families residing in what would become Franklin & surrounding rural areas including: Archer Cemetery - now part of Holland Road Cemetery; Dickinson Chapel - now Dickenson United Methodist Church west side lot next to high school athletic field - Now Evangelical Lutheran Church SOUTH PARK DRIVE opposite old Post Office office building - Now Christmastime Tree Lighting Ceremony Place inside City Hall) ."It wasn't until after World War II that demand grew throughout all parts of America (& Europe)for jobs creating bourgeoning suburbs & new industrial regions such as Midwest Cities being born out OF WWII suburban growth—"Franklin has always been crowded!"—thus giving rise to urban legends about why this once small town has so many people living there!" Many residents feel proud to call themselves "Franklinites" although much effort goes into maintaining courthouse square property backfield filled with businesses plus cultural events year round like Taste Of America Festival taking place every year since 1976…."

In 1837, a group of Swiss businessmen founded a small business called Rheinische Koffeehaus (Rhineland Coffee House), which became one of Switzerland’s leading coffeehouses. Over time, other Swiss businesses became involved in the production and distribution of artisanal coffee products: Schweizer Koffee Haus (Swiss CoffeeHouse), Eidgenossenschaftliches Kaffeetodelab (Eidgenossenkaffeelab), Café Balthazar (Café Balthazar), and Pacchiero’s Cafeteria (Pacchieri’s Cafeteria). By World War II, artisanal coffee had spread throughout most parts ofthe world. The popularity of this type of coffee led some companies—such as Peet’s Coffee Company—to abandon industrial-scale production in favorof small-scale roasting and manufacturing operations around the world.
