The first coffeehouses in Fond Du Lac were founded in the late 1800s. They served a variety of drinks, including coffee. The first coffee shop was called The Coffee House and Cattleman’s Store. In 1903, the business changed its name to The Citizen’s Coffee House and then to The Social Club in 1922. It reverted back to its original name in 1935. In 1951, the Social Club became the first café in town when it opened at 429 S Wisconsin Ave.
Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin is a small town in the United States located in the Waukesha County area of the state of Wisconsin. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. Fond Du Lac is the only incorporated municipality in Waukesha County. Fond Du Lac was founded on November 3, 1836 by John S. Hickey and his wife Amelia Cook Hickey as a Methodist mission station called "Hickey's Grove." The village grew rapidly from its original population of about fifty to two thousand by 1840. By 1881, when it had a total population of five thousand, Fond Du Lac had become one of America's leading manufacturing towns—producing products such as flour, cheese, clothing and engines. During World War II, Fond Du Lat's heavy industry helped contribute to Wisconsin's war economy; however, after the war ended there was little new production done in Fond Du Lac until well into the 21st century. In 1545, Portuguese sailors sighted an island off the coast of Brazil called Santa Cruz; this Island was later renamed Java because its people used it as their primary source for sugar cane (Coffee). Spanish explorers also explored this area during this time period; they encountered several different types of beans while trying to find what would make them unique among other plants. At first they believed that all these various typesof beans came from one place: India or Africa but eventually realized that each country had its own strengths when it came to growing specific crops/beans. Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin is a small town located in the southern part of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census and ranks as the 11th most populous city in Wisconsin. Fond Du Lac is also home to Racine County and its largest municipality, Racine. It occupies a tract of land that forms much of central-western Milwaukee County and includes some neighborhoods on the north side of Lake Michigan. The first European settlers in what is now Fond Du Lac arrived in 1836 by boat from Green Bay. They were led by Captain John Marshall and his brother-in-law Ethan Allen who had come overland from Illinois. The area that would become Fond Du Lac was long inhabited by the Potawatomi people who built villages along the Fox River system near present-day Waukesha and Merton Heights areas west of downtown Milwaukee. In 1841, Chief Joseph Chilton bought 5,000 acres (20 km²) around what is now downtown Fond Du lac for $3 per acre (1/4 mile²). This Purchase included all territory east of Niles Avenue between White Oak Road and Watertown Drive including what are now parts of Milwaukee County and Racine County today. In 1847, George Stephenson built a canal across Menomonee River Valley which connected Milwaukee with Chicago via Lake Michigan Ship Canal before becoming known as The Great Western Railroad which served as an important transportation artery through Northwestern America during its heyday from 1865 to 1894 inclusive . After World War I when railroads ended their passenger service throughout North America due to labor shortages following World War I, trucking became increasingly popular for transporting goods across Northwestern America until approximately 1970 when motor vehicle traffic began to increase significantly following oil production discoveries in North Dakota Territory .
