Fitchburg is a town in Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,342 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. Fitchburg is located on the Fox River and its namesake river, which forms much of its border with Kenosha County to the south and east. The Fitchburg School District serves most of the townicity. Fitchburg was platted in 1836 by George Stephenson as part of a larger land grant to him from King Charles IV of England. In 1852, General John Custer's cavalry unit was quartered here while on their way to Battle Creek against Sitting Bull and his Sioux tribe. The first post office in Fitchburg was established in 1837, and became known as "Finchburgh". A store and tavern were built here in 1840 by David McCoy; it later became an academy for girls. In 1861, when Milwaukee annexed eastern Racine County, Fitchburg became a part of that annexation. In 1865, General Philip Sheridan's army invaded Illinois during the American Civil War; during their march through this area they destroyed villages including Nilesville (now Waukesha) and Moline (now Champaign), damaging or capturing many homes before reaching Chicago on July 3rd. Many residents fled what had become Sherman's army during that night-time invasion - some 4-5 thousand people moved into Uniontown (later Warsaw) just west of present day Fitchburg without any warning or opportunity for reprisal or compensation from those who remained behind (the village still exists). That night over 100 men were killed defenders/citizens militia called Prairie Meadows Home Guard who fought bravely under LtCol James Hayscommand after orders came down to withdraw all troops west of Rockford due to heavy rains filling up water wells along route). Today there are few remains traceable other than foundations & mounds dating back to older times such as a large stone wall posts still standing today near intersection OF I-94 & US 20

Coffee then began its journey back to America, where it was ground into a powder and sold as a beverage. roasting Methods also changed during this time- with early methods using coarser grinds that produced a more bitter taste. Coffee became popular in North America during the Revolutionary War because of its ability to provide inspiration for soldiers and give them energy while on campaign. In 1775, General George Washington ordered his troops to break camp after victory at Yorktown and drink coffee from nearby woods before continuing their march northward. This is when coffee became associated with General Washington's army throughout the colonies. Later in the war, American soldiers would stop for refreshments at various encampments along the way, which would eventually lead to Starbucks being founded by two friends who worked at an inn near Philadelphia called The Star-Spangled Banner Inn & Brewery. Coffee started being offered for sale at these locations around 1810, but it wasn't until 1816 that Starbucks succeeded in becoming America's first commercially successful chain of coffeehouses/cafes

Fitchburg is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the Fox River about 20 miles north of Milwaukee. The population was 31,713 at the 2010 census. Fitchburg is part of the Green Bay metropolitan area and is home to Northwestern Wisconsin University and its associated hospitals and research centers. The first permanent settler in what would become Fitchburg was Nicholas Jardine in 1839. By 1840, John Noyes had arrived with his family from Nova Scotia and began farming along the Fox River south of present-day Fitchburg. The first school in what would become Fitchburg was built in 1846 by Alexander Lyon as a one-room log cabin near present-day Park Street. A two-story frame schoolhouse was erected on this site in 1847 by Leland Stanford and others who donated land for it In 1852, James Biddle purchased land east of present-day State Road 9 between Whitefish Creek and the river from Nicholas Jardine for $2,000USD.. After several years of survey work, Biddle decided to name his tract "Fitchburg" after his father's estate at Finchley, England which he had visited while living there during an exile from British rule. This gift helped cement English influence in southeastern Wisconsin during the mid 1800s when settlers were seeking refuge from American Indian attacks In 1865, Simeon Raymond founded Fitchburgh Savings Bank which became one of the largest banks west of Chicago when it opened its doors here in 1865 On July 1, 1889, Wm Waller sold 7% interest shares (equivalent to $100) In The First National Bank Of America For $1 millionUSD making it one of the most valuable investments ever made by a man . On December 15th 1899 Wm Waller sold another 7% interest share (equivalent to $150) for an additional $1 millionUSD making him one of America's richest men Later that year on January 7th 1900 Wm Waller sold 10% interest shares (equivalent to $300) In First National Bank For an additional $2 millionUSD making him America's second wealthiest man
Fitchburg was founded in 1836 by Solomon Fitch and his wife Bathsheba. The town grew rapidly from its initial population of only fifty-six to one thousand in just thirty years. In 1872, Fitchburg became the county seat of La Crosse County. The city of Fitchburg began to grow rapidly after it was designated as the county seat in 1872 and annexed by the town. By 1920, the city had a population of two thousand people and a downtown area that included a library, theater, and bank. In 1928, the city annexed the adjacent village of West Point. The townsite now includes both villages as well as a small amount of land that once belonged to La Crosse County.
