It is the county seat of Calumet County and has a population of over 121,000 as of 2015. The city was founded on June 15, 1854 by two brothers who were United States citizens from New York City and settled down in what is now Eau Claire. The first known military deployment to Eau Claire took place on December 12, 1860 when twelve soldiers from Fort Snelling arrived for supplies after fighting in the Mexican-American War. The city's current Armed Forces presence began with World War I when the United States declared war on Austria-Hungary on April 5, 1915. A detachment of American Marines landed at Pier One on the north side of the river and conducted combat patrols during the war until September 1914 when they departed for home due to lack of equipment and personnel. German forces attacked Allied Naval forces stationed at Pier One that day resulting in three ships being damaged and one killed within minutes which led to increased security around the port area; this event is still commemorated every year by Memorial Day weekend sailors/marines who visit Pier One Naval Station to pay their respects to those lost during wartime service. On July 14, 1920, US Marines disembarked from USS Pueblo at Pier One for training exercises with British Tank destroyers under Operation Jutland off Denmark’s coast; these exercises ended with no casualties resulted but HMS Clyde suffered damage which required weeks effort by engineers before she could be repaired sufficiently for another engagement; this event is also celebrated annually with a special ceremony aboard HMS Clyde during Veteran’s Day weekend. In 1947 an additional detachment of Marines disembarked at Pier One following Korea’s conflict between North Koreans and South Koreans which resulted in five Americans being killed while conducting combat operations ashore; this event forms part of Marine Corps history Month celebrations each summer throughout Chicagoland region including Eau Claire where it takes place at Green Bay Municipal Airport parade ground adjacent to post office). In 1852, the United States first deployed troops to Eau Claire, Wisconsin as part of the War of 1812. The city was soon placed under military protection and a garrison was established. The city's first military post was a Fort Atkinson on the edge of town. Over time, other forts were built in the city, including a Fort Snelling in 1864 and an Ft. Madison in 1886. In 1916, General Order No. 5 was issued ordering all military posts in the state to be closed until further notice due to World War I. The order also authorized the establishment of civilian posts within the city limits for purposes such as supplies and maintenance. After World War II ended, most of the military forces stationed in Eau Claire were disbanded or reassigned elsewhere within Wisconsin and Minnesota. However, a few soldiers remain stationed here today as part of various militia units and ceremonial events
Eau Claire is a town in La Crosse County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 9,055 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlers in what is now Eau Claire were French-Canadian fur traders who arrived in 1792 and named it "Clermont". In 1836, the name was shortened to "Eau Claire" after John C. Ladd, an agent for the Northern Pacific Railroad. In 1857, an Act of Congress changed the name of La Crosse County from Chequamegon to Eau Claire because of its ability to take water from two branches of the Kettle River. The railroad arrived in 1858 and soon began building tracks through Eau Claire. By 1861, over one hundred trains had passed through Eau Clair each day and it became a thriving town with a population of 1,000 people. During World War I (1914-18), many men and women served in the war effort as volunteers or draftees; many residents also worked on munitions plants around town. After World War I ended, most businesses closed down but some continued operation until they were bought out by other businesses during the Great Depression. In 1949, Righteous Brothers recording artist brother Louis recorded his song "I'm From Illinois", which featured a performance by vocalist Eddie Murphy at local high school called Aquinas High School Auditorium (now known as Greenfield High School). The song helped lead to increased tourism and development around Aquinas High School until it closed down in 2002 when it merged into La Crosse Community College District No.-1 campus which includes both Aquinas High School Campus and Greenfield High School Campus portions of Eau Claire proper Eddie Murphy's aquinas high school auditorium still stands today!

Eau Claire, Wisconsin is a city located in the U.S. state ofWisconsin and is the county seat of Douglas County. As of the 2010 census, its population was 188,871. The Eau Claire River forms the city's namesake and boundaries are defined by Second Street east to west (northwest to southeast) and First Avenue south to north (east to west). The first Europeans to visit what is now Eau Claire were French explorers Jacques Marquette and La Salle in 1679-80. The area that would become Eau Claire was settled by German emigrants in 1854. In 1857, a group of men from Eau Claire founded a wagon company called the Milwaukee Road Company which became one of the largest transportation companies in America. That same year, General William Tecumseh Sherman arrived at Eau Claire on his march from Chicago through Iowa into Minnesota Territory at what is now downtown Minneapolis with his army looking for new land to conquer. Sherman ordered his troops not to stop at any town or village on their route but instead encamp near Watertown where they built roads, bridges and stores. In 1865, when Wisconsin became a U.S. state, it included what are now Douglas and Winnebago counties as well as all of present-day EauClaire township except for a small piece southwest of downtown that belonged to Rockford Township until 1959. On July 11, 1868, Fort Laramie was abandoned after being occupied during the Black Hawk War by United States forces under General Zachary Taylor; this event has been cited as one reason why many people in rural areas developed strong ties with nearby cities during this time period because there was no military presence within easy commuting distance (although fortifications remained in place throughout much of northern Wisconsin until recently). On December 12th 1888 an act authorizing incorporation as a city was passed by the legislature over objections from Dearborn County commissioners who saw it as an attempt by Milwaukeeites control over what would become one of their own backyard! Mayor George Hahn named John Fenton commissioner for public improvement and filed plans with City Hall for construction on State Street between Third and Fourth Streets which would later become Wabash Avenue outside today’s center including water treatment plants, library/museum addition etcetera! Canals were also planned such as “the great white way” connecting Lake Michigan with Racine via Sault Ste Marie taking advantage of natural harbours then available along those channels! When voters ratified their constitutionality referendum November 7th 1889 they did so knowing fullwell that only 1/3rds could be dollared without having special meetings held therein – nearly everyone knew they wanted incorporation regardless !!! Ever since then we have had countless committees working day & night trying every conceivable means possible thru proper channels(!!!) just TO INCORPORATE our GREAT CITY OF EEUKLARE ???
