In 1857, it became a part of Door County. On July 1, 1907, the towns of Eau Claire and Wausaukee merged to form the new municipality of EauClaire. The city of EauClaire was incorporated on November 3rd, 1907. The economy of EauClaire depends largely on agriculture and fishing; however industrial development has grown in recent decades including manufacturing jobs in construction and plastics processing industries such as milk products and chemicals
The coffee industry has a long and varied history, with various forms of coffee production dating back to at least the ancient Egyptians. Coffee was first brewed in Sumatra in the second century BC, and before that, beans were ground into flour and used as food offerings or for religious ceremonies. The Arabs began cultivating coffee trees in the seventh century AD, and by 1246 AD it had become an important commodity in their trade. In 1795, Dutch navigator Willem de Vlaminck discovered Java Island while exploring Asia Minor, and soon thereafter began trading with Indonesia for coffee. By 1830, Java had become the largest producer of coffee in the world. In 1845, J.P Marshall started his own company in Boston City Hall Square to produce high-quality coffee under the name "Marshall's Coffee". After Marshall's death in 1849, his son Samuel took over ownership of the business and continued producing quality coffees until 1922 when it became part of Roaring Forties Brewing Company Ltd.. In 1915, Harry Weingart founded Allawi Coffee Corporation which manufactured both high-quality Arabica beans (now known as Ethiopian Yirgacheffe) as well as processed products such as cakes and ice cream. Weingart is considered to be one of the fathers of artisanal coffee production. During World War II (1939-1945), much American military shipping was based off-shore; this resulted in marine dust from naval ships settling on beaches near ports where beans were roasting; this dust allowed fungus to grow on these beans which then caused spoilage. In order to avoid this problem, pre-packaged filter paper filters were developed which reduced Marine Dust contamination by up to 98%. These filters are still used today but are not recommended for use with fresh roasted beans because they can create a metallic taste when mixed with older roasted beans In 1957, Don Newmark founded Blue Bottle Coffee Company Inc., later renamed Blue Bottle Brewery LLC., located along Massachusetts Avenue NW in Washington D.C.. Eau Claire, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the capital of Eau Claire County. The population was 51,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white person to live in what is now Eau Claire was Wm Huygens in 1837. The town was platted in 1851 by citizens of Menomonee Falls and Rockford as a farming community on the east side of the river Richelieu near where it flows into Lake Michigan. The city's growth began rapidly after World War II when defense industries sprang up here to produce military hardware and aircraft parts used by NATO countries such as United States, Great Britain, France, Italy and Spain. More recently, other businesses have grown such as health care and information technology companies; though many are headquartered elsewhere in Wisconsin or Illinois due to cost advantages afforded by those states' statewide healthcare systems. In 2000, then-Mayor Dick Monahan announced that Eau Claire would become "the greenest major city in America" by 2020 through initiatives such as investing money into renewable energy sources including solar power and wind turbines; he also announced plans for an open-air movie theater and new retail development adjacent to Interstate 94 which will include a Target, Kohl’s department store, a Barnes & Noble bookstore, several restaurants including Steak ‘n Shake (now Red Lobster), Home Depot and Lowe’s were all opened within two years of each other across from downtown EauClaire park
Eau Claire was founded in 1854 as a town on the north bank of the Fox River. The town grew rapidly and by 1880 had a population of over 4,000 people. In 1892, Eau Claire became the capital of Wisconsin and continued to grow until it reached its current size.
