Cudahy is a town in Sawyer County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. The community was founded in 1854 when the Wabash and Mississippi Railroad built a line from Green Bay to Cudahy. The Cudahy post office was established on March 10, 1854, and remained in operation until it was discontinued on November 15, 1952. The first settler in what is now Cudahy Township was John Mireson. He moved to the area in 1848. In 1851 he married Mary Kapp and they had four children: John (1852-1911), Frances (1855-1936), Eliza (1858-1945) and James Mireson (1860-1935). In 1870 Drury & Dixon erected a sawmill which continued operating until 1915. It manufactured lumber for local homes and businesses as well as providing employment for many people in the early days of the town's growth. "In 1854 an ad appeared in "The Republican" newspaper announcing that a new railroad station would be built about one mile west of town on the Wabash & Mississippi Railroad." This new stations were called West Side Depot and East Side Depot because they were located east of present day Main Street. After construction of this railroad there developed more than just passenger service; freight trains also served these stations bringing goods such as flour, wheat, hay etc., into town during those years before automobiles arrived! A locomotive operated by the Milwaukee Road ran between these two depots making it possible for farmers to bring their loads directly into town while still being able to get out to market! There are several pictures online dating back to this time showing various types of equipment used at these two depots including wagons filled with products being unloaded!" These trains stopped at both stations allowing passengers to alight and take either walk or ride their horses back home!
