Cedarburg is a village in the town of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 694 at the 2010 census. Cedarburg was established in 1847 and named for Cedar Creek which flows through the village. The first Post Office was established in1849. Cedarburg was one of twelve villages consolidated into the newly created Town of Cedarburg on November 3, 1854. In 1888, when town government changed from parish to township form, Cedarburg became an incorporated village with a mayor and four trustees. On December 20, 1907, the Village Board voted to change its name to Cedarburg Township because it felt that this would be more accurately reflect its boundaries as well as provide a more accurate geographic designation for the community. The Village of Cedarburg prospered until World War II when blue-collar jobs were lost due to manufacturing closures in Iowa and other states outside of Wisconsin. In order to maintain some level of economic stability during these difficult years, the Village Board authorized a bank account and began offering home mortgages within their community. This provided stability for residents during tough times while also keeping necessary amenities accessible; such as schools and libraries
