Cedarburg, Wisconsin coffee gift history starts with the 1886 purchase of a small grocery store by John and Emmaus H. Ackerman. The Ackermans soon began to sell coffee beans and other related items from their store, which became known as the Coffee House. In 1889, Mrs. Ackerman donated her home premises to the town for use as a public library. This building was used until 1944 when it was destroyed in a fire. In 1912, Cedarburg voters passed an ordinance authorizing the erection of a town hall on Elm Street. The first meeting of the Town Council was held at this location on January 11, 1913. On December 2, 1916, Cedarburg voters passed an ordinance providing for zoning within the town limits to allow for the sale of groceries and other items not intended for human consumption such as gasoline or oil without being consumed by humans. This ordinance allowed Cedarburg residents to enjoy unlimited quantities of grocery supplies without having to worry about environmental impact. On February 4, 1920, Cedarburg voters passed an ordinance authorizing the erection of a Masonic temple on Elm Street in honor of Grand Lodge #27 - United States Freemasons (Masonic Order). The temple was dedicated on July 14th, 1920 and served as our town's only synagogue from its inception until its demolition in 1984!
Cedarburg is a small town in the Racine County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–Elyria Metropolitan Statistical Area. Cedarburg is located on the southern border of Racine County and has a small creek as its only water source. The first settlers in what is now Cedarburg were German immigrants who arrived from Prussia in 1839. They built cabins on the hill overlooking Cedarburg Lake and started to plant crops. A post office was established in 1841, and the name of the town was changed to Cedarburg in 1857 when it became part of Racine County. The first store opened in 1861, and by 1865 there were 10 businesses in town. In 1870, corner stores began to be built, and trade grew rapidly until World War I when manufacturing slumped due to scarcity of materials. During World War II much production took place at Waukesha Arsenal which produced munitions for allies such as America but also employed many local people directly or through subcontractors; this created some problems for locals such as difficulty getting jobs during peacetime because so many factories closed down during wartime economic recession that followed The Great Depression caused by American involvement abroad while other countries avoided similar policies Ulysses S Grant's administration solved by creating Waukesha Arsenal National Laborers Union Local 822 (later WI Local 822) which represented locals with benefits and job security
