Cedarburg, Wisconsin is a small town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 5,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cedarburg, WI Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first settled in 1834 by Germans from Hanover, Germany and named after Cedar Creek in Pennsylvania. The town post office was established in 1836 and operated until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1846, the town became a part of the newly formed Racine County. In 1870, the county was divided into two parts and Cedarburg became a part of the new Milwaukee County. In 1904, Cedarburg incorporated as a village and remained so until 1971 when it became an unincorporated community again under its original name though with some changes to its government since then (most notably being that it has had three mayors). The population of Cedarburg rose rapidly through annexation over time, reaching 27,000 by 1916; however, during World War I its growth slowed as troops were sent home to fight instead of garrisoning in cities such as Cedarburg. Its peak population occurred in 1960 when it had 35,000 residents; however, since then its growth has been modestly declining each decade (-4% from 2000 to 2010). Cedarburg is located in southeastern Crawford County on Illinois Route 9 south of Interstate 94 and east of Oshkosh Heights. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all land. As of the census[1]of 2010, there were 12,873 people residing within 2 miles (3 km) of downtown Cedarburg limits: 8orf9 (or 3rd Ward), down from 10 or 4th Ward before annexation; north side 1st Street west from US Highway 90 just past new interchange for I-94/I-93 east along Elm Street until intersecting Kenosha Avenue - now Business Wright Road north side; east side 3rd Street west from Elm Street until intersecting business Ewing Avenue - now North Side Drive east side between 3rd and 4th streets where I-94 splits off into Business Loop Ivor Rd
