Caledonia, Wisconsin is a small city located in the town of Spooner, Wisconsin. The population was 2,748 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–Appleton–Waukesha County metropolitan area. The city was founded by Germans in 1847 as "Huberstadt". The name was changed to "Caledonia" in 1881 and to its current name in 1912. The city became a Village when it incorporated as a City on November 3, 1913. The first store opened in Caledonia on Main Street on September 10, 1847 by Ira Cohn and his brother-in-law Jacob Klinghoffer. In 1850, Michael Grosse built the first post office at Caledonia with two rooms and four desks. He operated it until 1861 when he moved to Waukesha County and reopened the Post Office there from 1861-1862. In 1865, William Kapp set up a wagon shop near the present day intersection of State Road 523 and State Road 614 (now US Highway 12). This business continued until 1870 when Kapp moved to Green Bay forties because of increased competition from wagon shops run by George Hesseltine and John Dittrich across the river inWisconsin Rapids. Caledonia, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Caledonia County. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Menomonee River near Green Bay. The town was founded by New Englanders in 1851 as a result of their land dispute with the Potawatomi people. In 1854, it became part of the new Dakota Territory when that territory was created from parts of Minnesota and Iowa. In 1868, it merged with Racine County to become Caledonia County. In 1924, Caledonia voters approved a measure to create an agricultural center around what is now Green Bay in order to increase production for local farmers and processors.
