The Burlington, Wisconsin coast guard has been a part of the community since 1898. The first Coast Guard station was built in Burlington and it served as a base for the volunteers who policed the waters around the city. In 1916, the Burlington City Council voted to establish a permanent Coast Guard station, which would be located at North Avenue and Third Street. The station served as a base for local volunteer coast guard units until 1958 when it was moved to its present location on First Street. The current Coast Guard Station is built on land donated by Mrs. Anna Ladd and Mr. Harry Goodrich in 1938. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Since 1918, Burlington has had two full-time Coast Guardsmen stationed here! These men are responsible for protecting the waters around our city from unauthorized fishing and boating activity, as well as helping maintain law and order during special events such as parades or concerts. Additionally, they provide security at various civic functions throughout the year such as state fairs or city meetings. Each officer is sworn to protect life and property within their jurisdiction while performing their duties; however, members of the detachment can also assist law enforcement agencies if requested by either agency.

Today, the Coast Guard enjoys a highly appreciated reputation for its heroism and dedication to safety on America's oceans. In addition to providing essential services that keep our communities safe, the Coast Guardsmen and women provide unique gifts each year that commemorate their important work. Some of these unique gifts include Collector's items like buttons or coins from different eras or agencies associated with maritime rescue or conservation efforts; Maritime memorabilia like anchors or masts; fishing rods and equipment; sea shells; watches; jewelry; house pets (chihuahuas being especially popular);and even baseball caps! This patriotic Button has become quite rare as only about 10 are known to exist today. The next decade saw some significant changes when it came to gifts given by members of the Coast Guard. Beginning in 1829, members began receiving medals with engraved designs which offered clues about their service along with other special commendations such as promotion or enlistment into other branches of government! Medals were also given as part of civilian ceremonies such as marriages or funerals! Unfortunately for us today though, most Medal Necklaces have been lost over time either melted down or taken away by collectors! In 1876 Congress passed legislation authorizingthe President To award Medals Of Honor "To any person who distinguishes himself conspicuously while serving under my flag" . Because many members served multiple times during one campaign or event it would be difficult determine which individual should receive this distinction however four men received this honor: Lieutenant Commander John Rood (1868), First Mate James Wofford (1888), Petty Officer 2nd Class Samuel Biddle (1915), and Petty Officer 3rd Class Leroy Robinson (1937). In addition to its traditional duties such as enforcing laws on the sea and protecting coastal communities, the Coast Guard also conducts a variety of other activities including search and rescue, natural disaster response, piracy deterrence, and counter-terrorism efforts.
Burlington is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the Fox River near Milwaukee. The population was 68,362 at the 2010 census, making it the fifth-largest city in Wisconsin and the second-largest in Northern Wisconsin after Milwaukee.[1] Burlington is one of five cities in the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Burlington was Nicholas Hennepin, who came to this region from what is now Minnesota about 1836. He founded a tavern called "Hennepin's Bend" on the west bank of the Fox River near what is now Watertown. In 1837, he married Rebecca Jensdorf and they started a family. In 1851, John Fenton built a gristmill on small stream known as Big Branch which later became Burlington's main water supply and town center. Fenton continued to operate his mill until 1862 when he donated it to become part of Northwestern University[2]. The village that developed around Burlington's gristmill became known as North Burlington Township because its eastern border extended into Racine County (now Clear Lake County).[3] North Burlington Township merged withMilwaukee County in 1930 to form Milwaukee.[4] In 1984, North Burlington Township again merged with Milwaukee County to form Bergen County,[5][6] but this merger did not take place because Bergen County had more residents than Chicago Park District—the two municipal districts that made up Morrisania Borough within Chicago Park District (Bergen Borough). As a result of this discrepancy, North Burlington Township remains an unincorporated community within Milwaukee county today. On November 5, 1865,[7][8][9] three weeks before Lincoln was assassinated,[10], Reverend James Kapp[11][12] pastor of First Congregational Church in downtown Montrose began preaching from an open air platform at Franklin Street and Watertown Roadstead leading eastward towards where he predicted President Abraham Lincoln would be fatally shot during Thanksgiving dinner that night;[13][14][15]}Kapp’s prediction proved accurate and Lincoln was fatally shot less than two hours after his sermon ended; Kapp died instantly from gunshot wounds and local physician Drury performed surgery which saved President Lincoln’s life
Burlington is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, and the seat of Burlington County. The population was 21,951 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha metropolitan area. The first people to live in Burlington were Frenchmen who came overland from Quebec in 1663 and arrived on the east side of Lake Michigan. They named their new town after a nearby village, Saint-Jacques-de-Burlington (now Burlington). In 1795, Captain John Norum founded what would becomeNorum's Fitchburg Company whichpackaged goods for distribution throughout New England and Central America; this helped make Burlington an important port on the Great Lakes region during the 18th century. The first school was built in 1796 by Reverend John Whetstone and it served as a training ground for future pastors. The first store opened in 1829 by Lewis Hixon and his son Abraham Hixon Sr.. The community grew rapidly with new construction such as an opera house, jail, millinery shop and more public buildings being erected throughout the 19th century including an opera house designed by noted architect James Hoban that still stands today. In 1902, Mayor Augustus Pritzker declared May Day "City Day" to celebrate its incorporation into the municipality; this event helped promote Burlington as a cultural center for eastern Wisconsinites during that era. In 1915, Burlington became one of only two U.S cities to be bombed when German bombers raided Hamburg; however, all members of staff except onesurvived without injury or loss of property. This bombing campaign did considerable damage to downtown businesses but also caused few casualties due to quick rebuilding efforts which began immediately followingthe raid On November 15th 1920 – just days before Wisconsin statehood – residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of becoming a separate state called “Wisconsin” withinthe then existing United States Of America; this act resulted in much rejoicing among local officials as it marked not only Vermont’s entry into American history but also signifiedthe creation of what would eventuallybecome known as Milwaukee County .
