The Coast Guard gift history in Brookfield, Wisconsin began with the establishment of the Brookfield-based Coast Guard District on January 1, 1892. The first gifts were donated by local citizens and businesses to help support the volunteer force. In 1905, a small appropriation was made to purchase supplies for the Coast Guard Station at Ashland. From then until 1935, gifts were solicited from local residents and business owners only. During World War II, donations of goods and services increased as people in Brookfield felt compelled to assist their fellow countrymen. The generosity of our community continued into the postwar years when volunteers patrolled our coastline and helped patrol our waterways. In 1965, President Lyndon Johnson established the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). As part of its mission statement, NOAA committed itself to improve coastal security through research and education programs concerning marine life, fisheries, climate change, shoreline protection and more. As a result of this commitment, NOAA initiated a program called "Gift Aid" which gave away items such as mugs or T-shirts from participating merchants in order to support Coastal Security Initiatives across America. This program continues today as "Operation Seashell." Today's Coast Guard gift history is reflective of our Nation's commitment to protect maritime interests both domestically and abroad. The Brookfield Coast Guard Station was the first permanent coast guard station on Milwaukee's west side. The station served as a training ground for new officers and men Entered into service May 1, 1912. In 1924, the Coast Guard moved to its present location on Superior Avenue inBrookfield. In 1967, the station became part of the Milwaukee County Sheriffs Department and continues to serve that purpose today. Today, the Coast Guard Station Brookfield offers a wide variety of services including law enforcement; maritime security; public safety; Search and Rescue; disaster relief; and environmental protection.
Brookfield is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, on the east bank of the Fox River. The population was 93,521 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest city in Wisconsin and second-smallest in America after Detroit, Michigan. Brookfield's borders are as follows: to the north by Green Bay, to the south by Milwaukee County and Racine County, and to the west by Dane County. The first Europeans to visit what is now Brookfield were French traders and fur trappers who passed through there in 1673–74 when they were exploring the region for new land sources. A permanent settler community had not been established until 1836, when John Fitch purchased two thousand acres (1 km²) of land along with other resources near present day downtown Brookfield from David Thompson for $10 per acre ($2 million today). In 1847, he named his new town "Fitchburg" after himself; it was renamed "Brookfield" on July 1, 1872. In 1871–72 Charles Wirth developed a small paper mill at what is now North Seventh Street and South Tenth Avenue; this village formed part of what would become Milwaukee Township (now West Milwaukee). On November 5, 1872, Wirth became one of five men awarded a patent for a large machine shop which he called "The Falls". The first product that came out of this shop was paper products such as corduroys and calico stockings. This led to an increased demand for paper products throughoutMilwaukee Township so Wirth began producing finished articles like sheetsrockers and boatswain's chairs from 1861 onward. By 1865 Paper Products Manufacturing Company had produced over one million pieces of paper products including 100% mailerboard! The company went public in 1888 under its original name but changed it back to Paper Products Manufacturing Company soon after due to excessive competition from others in that industry On October 14th 1889 during its centennial year - 150 years later - Paper Products Manufacturing Company announced plans to close its doors forever following bankruptcy within only 10 years due largely to falling commodity prices combined with technological advances leading up thereto! At their height they employed more than 2000 people including managers, engineers and scientists! With several plants closed down during those times there wasn't enough demand or competition for their products so eventually many jobs were lost as well makingPaperProductsManufacturingCompanyaacrosstheir competitors all alone! However despite their shortcomingspaperproductsmanufacturingcompanydidhaveoneprimaryfeaturewhichwastohelpbridgethe Gapbetweenmanufacturersofnewandimproved technologiesinthesuchindustries!! Theydevelopeda Process Engineering Department which helped design machines that could handle newly invented processes like photoengraving etc., thus helping lead directlytoinventionofthephotographicprinter!! That same department also helped create drill presses which permitted mass productionofthetapesoulographixenovel!). Today remnants of these factories still exist inside Hecht & Struggles Incorporated located just off I-94 outside Stoughton MA !"

Brookfield is located on the southern edge of Milwaukee County and bordered by Waukesha to the north, Goodhue to the east, Kenosha to the south, and Racine to the west. The first permanent settlers in what is now Brookfield were a group of Englishmen who arrived in 1790 from York (now Toronto), Ontario. The town name may derive from "Brunswick," British Columbia, where one early settler had married an American woman. In 1834, when Milwaukee County was created and incorporated as a borough within it, Brookfield became its borough seat; it has remained so since then.
