Brookfield, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Brookfield County. The population was 17,821 at the 2010 census, making it the largest town in Milwaukee County by population. It is also one of the most-visible Midwestern cities, with an eclectic mix of architecture, products and services that reflect its unique history and culture. The first coffee beans were grown on a small family farm near Brookfield in 1847 by Reuben Wirths. In 1870, John Charles Schultz founded Schultz Coffee Company in what is now Milwaukee to sell roasted coffee beans from his home stove. The company became one of the most successful in American business and was acquired by J.P. Morgan & Co., which renamed it Chase Manhattan Bank Corporation in 1987 before selling it to News Corporation in 1999 for $32 billion USD. In 2000, Starbucks opened its first store in Brookfield shopping center; subsequent stores followed throughout Midwest towns and counties such as Appleton (2006), Racine (2007), Janesville (2008), Green Bay (2009) and Davenport (2013). The first coffee shop in Brookfield was opened by Fenton & Webster in 1852. The shop became known as the Coffee House and served coffee until the early 1900s. In 1862, John Henniker founded the J.H. Henniker Coffee Company in Brookfield and started selling artisan coffee from his shop. The company continued to operate until 1957. After J.H. Henniker's death, his son, John Henniker Jr., took over the company and continued to sell artisan coffee until 1978 when he sold the business to West Bradley Coffee Inc.. In 1983, West Bradley Coffee merged with Milwaukee-based Ruby Tuesday Coffee Co., which also owned North Side Café on Milwaukee Avenue in downtown Milwaukee. From Ruby Tuesday Coffee Co.'s perspective, it became one of their largest assets and they continued to operate North Side Café until its closure in 2002.
Brookfield is a town in the state of Wisconsin, United States. The population was 21,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis metropolitan area. The name "Brookfield" comes from an Ottawa River Indian word meaning "upper meadow." The town was platted on June 10, 1847 by Nathan Myrick and James Fenton. The first post office in Brookfield was established on July 2, 1848. At its peak in 1870, Brookfield had a population of 25,000. However, by 1880 the population had declined to 16,500 due to natural attrition and industrial development within the town limits. In 1896 Brooks Valley Railroad became part of the Chicago and Northwestern Railway system; this led to a decline in trade with Brookfield because railroad transportation increased competition for goods transported by water. In 1903-4 Brookfield suffered damage from a severe tornado that touched down near the town center; this event served as impetus for years of revitalization efforts within the community through programs such as economic development projects and creation of streetscape improvements including new parks and playgrounds. Today's economy is based largely on health care services and dairy production; however, some light manufacturing activity continues throughout downtown which has resulted in some growth over recent years. There are currently four schools within walking distance of each other: one public school (grades pre-K-12), two private schools (one elementary/middle school grade school), one parochial high school (8th grade) – all operated through School District #2700 – as well as two libraries located within walking distance totaling over 1 million items!

Brookfield was first settled in 1834 by English-Canadian immigrants and their families. The village rapidly grew due to its good transportation connections and natural resources, including coal and iron ore. By 1855, Brookfield had a post office, school, Methodist church, and two hotels. In 1872, the town became an incorporated municipality with a government based on assimilationist principles championed by then-Mayor John J. Hillman. Brookfield continued to grow as it became known for its agricultural products - such as corn crops and soybeans - as well as its milling capabilities which processed flour, paper products, cottonseed oil (used for manufacturing gasoline), lead paint and other materials for local businesses and consumers alike until Prohibition ended in 1933. In 1951, during the early days of television broadcasting in America, Brookfield aired live from WTMJ-TV's studios on Main Street when that station began operations preempting all other stations throughout the Milwaukee metro area for three hours each day to provide coverage of the United States Presidential election that year between Richard Nixon (D) and John F Kennedy (L). At that time WTMJ also simulcast programming from sister station WIBA-TV in Racine County across Lake Michigan providing additional coverage within the Milwaukee metro area while also airing shortwave broadcasts from around the world during election seasons In 1990s Brookfield experienced economic recession with many businesses closing down unable to make payroll or competing with online shopping malls which took over those businesses during this period However due to new investment by entrepreneur Dave Hecker who purchased most of what remained of what had been once one of Wisconsin's largest Private Military Company Brooks Manufacturing company which closed several thousand jobs overall but produced some high quality manufacturing jobs creating more than fifteen hundred new fulltime salaried jobs since 2003 through his business venture "Wisconsin Manufacturing Partners" along with investments into training programs for local apprenticeship programs
Brookfield was first settled in 1846 by John and Rebecca Brook. The town was named after the brooks that flow through it. In 1870, a post office called Brookfield was founded, and in 1875, the first store was built. The population of Brookfield increased rapidly during the 19th century, and by 1914 it had reached 100 people. In 1917, Brookline High School became the first high school in town.
