Bellevue is a town in Washington County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,914 at the 2010 census. Bellevue is located on the southeastern border of the county and is bordered by Green Bay to the north and east, Sheboygan County to the south, and Racine County to the west. The name "Bellevue" originated from a French word meaning "a place where people gather." The first settler in Bellevue was John Morse who arrived in 1836. He built a cabin on what is now State Street. A post office was established at Bellevue in 1841, and it remained in operation until 1959. The first school in Bellevue was started by Mrs. Jane Addams with nine students in 1852. It continued until 1901 when it merged with Sheboygan School District #2 which had been organized two years earlier. In 1870, Bellevue became part of Washburne Township under Milwaukee County jurisdiction. In 1899, it again became part of Washington County when Oshkosh Township absorbed what were then Washburne and Bellevue Townships into its boundaries. According to the 2010 census, there are 5,914 people living in Bellevuetownship (including 2121 residents of Sheboygan Township). Of these residents: 50% are white; 43% are black or African American; 11% are Native American; 6% are Asian/Pacific Islander; 2% are Hispanic or Latino; and 1% have other races ancestry
