On December 17, 1775, General George Washington and 350 of his troops set off on horseback from fort Dearborn on the north side of Lake Michigan for what would be a long march through hostile territory. They arrived at Fort Ripon on the southern tip of Lake Superior on January 1, 1776. There they met up with Patriot forces led by Marquette and La Salle. The battle that followed is still remembered as one of the most fought in American history. After three days of hard fighting, Washington's force emerged victorious and took control of part of the northern end of Lakes Superior and Michigan. One year later, in 1777, General Benedict Arnold was sent to lead an army detachment into Canada to help put down a revolt there by French Canadians. He arrived at Quebec City on October 25th and began preparations for his offensive against British forces there. However, within two weeks he had learned that British General Cornwallis was moving south from Montreal towards Quebec City with an overwhelming force made up mostly of veteran British soldiers and Hessians! Arnold quickly dispatched a small detachment under Lieutenant Colonel John Stark to try to block Cornwallis' path but it was too late; Cornwallis had already reached Quebec City! In response to this terrible news, Washington ordered all surplus cannons and munitions seized from British arsenals throughout North America and melted down into new cannon barrels so that they could not be used against Americans until after their war with Great Britain was over! This move helped preserve American morale during wartime while also ensuring that no New England town or village would fall victim to British occupation! Aftermath: In total 2 million pounds sterling worth of goods were taken from Canadian arsenals between1775-1783!!!

Baraboo, Wisconsin is a small town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 5,052 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Racine metropolitan area. At one time it was an agricultural community located on the east bank of the Fox River and adjoining Baraboo National Forest, but today much of its land has been developed as suburban areas with shopping malls, restaurants, and other businesses located near schools and churches. The first European settlers in what is now Baraboo were Frenchmen who arrived in 1763 from Quebec City. They began to farm here and soon named their settlement after Jean-Baptiste Caron de Lacrosse (1715-97), a Canadien explorer and fur trader who had visited this area earlier that year. The town site was surveyed by Captain John Fitch in 1814 and named for General Isaac Brock (1759-1827), one of American independence's most celebrated generals during the War of 1812. In 1847, General Solomon Kane bought 1,500 acres (600 hectares) adjacent to present day Baraboo from Nicholas Biddle for $1 per acre (0.50 km²). He founded Kane County which included present day Baraboo Township along with nearby La Crosse Township on both sides of the river then calledWisconsin's "Great Lakes".During this time period many new towns were established all over America following territorial acquisitions including those around Milwaukee – Racine being one such example – but few if any reached within reach of Chicago or Milwaukee proper until Kane County annexed these neighboring townships as well during 1850 whenellspinning villageredevelopedjustoutsidetheKaneCounty limitsfollowinga petitionfromJohnFitchandhis sons Samuel and Elijah Fitch Regarding a potential location for a national courthouse which would have served not just Racine but also Eagle Point Landing ontheFox River where some pioneers had built a ferry crossing in 18374 years earlier2(Eagle Point Landing later became known as Wauwatosa). In 1857 General David Dixon purchased 640 acres (250 hectares) adjacent to present day Baraboo from Nicholas Biddle for $3 per acre ($0.60 km²). He founded Dixon County which included present day aspectookingpartofDixonTownshipalongwith neighbouring Howard TownshiponbothsidesoftheFoxRiverthencalledWisconsin's"Great Lakes".Duringthis timepreviousAmericanvotersdidnot voteattheirnationalelectionsuntil1868when they did so via special conventions convened by President Abraham Lincoln to fill vacancies caused by death or retirement among their fellow legislators
