The town of Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin is located in the Grant County seat of Appleton. The population was 2,488 at the 2010 census. The village of Ashwaubenon lies within the town boundaries. A post office called Ashwaubenon was established in 1857, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first settler in Ashwaubenon was Levi Crouse. Ashwaubenon is known for its cheese industry and for producing apples for export to other countries. In 1916, a large apple orchard was built by J.F. Doherty and Fenton Kappelhof on land that had been part of the old Black Hawk Indian Reservation east of present-day Ashwaubenon Village. In 1950, Lester Wirth opened a small grocery store on Main Street in the village which became an important link between local residents and downtown Appleton. Wirth continued to operate his business until his death in 1984. The apple orchard where J.F Doherty and Fenton Kappelhof operated their farm from 1916 through 1950 continue to produce apples today under the name "Doherty & Kappelhof".

Ashwaubenon is a town in La Crosse County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,583 at the 2010 census. The Ashwaubenon post office was founded in 1851. The first people to live in what is now Ashwaubenon were the Menominee Indians. European settlers arrived in this area during the 1800s, and by 1836 most of what is now Ashwaubenon had been settled. In 1851, a group of men from La Crosse decided to establish a post office in the area. This became an important stop on mail delivery routes between La Crosse and other towns in the region. By 1860, much of what is now Ashwaubenon had been developed as a rural community with small farms and homes. In 1902, residents expressed interest in developing an amusement park that would be closer to their homes than the existing parks located in nearby La Crosse and Milwaukee. The park was built on land purchased by the town trustees and opened to the public on July 15, 1903. Over time, various additions were made to the park such as a water slide (1910), carousel (1911), zoo (1963), roller coaster (1974), and coasters (1981). The park closed its doors for good in 1984 but reopened under new management several years later as Great America Park
