Appleton, Wisconsin is a town in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 7,183 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The village of Appleton was incorporated in 1875 and merged with the town in 1984. Appleton is home to Brown University and also hosts one of the world's largest apple orchards. The first Europeans to visit what is now Appleton were French explorers who landed there on October 13, 1673 and named it "Port-aux-Ormes". A post office called "Appleton" was established in 1837, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1954. The first settler from what is now Appleton arrived around 1792 when Nicholas Wisniewski formed a party of nine men and three women – including his wife Anna – from Racine County,Wisconsin west of Milwaukee to found a new farmstead near present day Appleton. Upon arrival they erected two small wooden cabins which served as their residence for six months before moving on to find another site. They eventually located a larger cabin which they named "Casa de la Esperanza" meaning “House of Hope” after an ornament they had brought back from Havana Cuba: an eagle perched upon a column topped by a cross whose wings were spread wide open (a design common among Spanish missionaries). This original house stand still today as evidence that early settlers were not only interested in religious symbols but also architecture - something which would become more important later on when the church came into being. It wasn't until 1836 that the first school opened up in what is now Appleton; this time it was called "Fulton School". In 1854 Union Pacific Railroad built its line through central Ozaukee County linking Milwaukee with Chicago; this necessitated the construction of several towns along its route including Fox Point (now Wauwatosa), Oneida Township (now West Allis), Ralston Junction (now Ralston) and finally appleTON! After many years of growth due to railroad traffic and farming during times when there wasn't much else going on around here, by 1880 there were over 10 churches located throughout town with over 100 residents! Although agriculture continued to be the mainstay of local life for many years afterwards, industry soon became more important thanks to transportation improvements made during World War II - enabling people living near factories accessto good jobs right away! As manufacturing took off within AppleTON we saw some major changes take place such as our current downtown area being developed using funds raised from businesses that relocated here during that time period!

Appleton is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located in the Driftless Valley region of the Midwest. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. Appleton is one of six towns in Winnebago County and is part of the Quad Cities metropolitan area. The town began as a small settlement on the banks of the Menomonee River, about two miles upstream from present-day Appleton. A post office was established in 1837, and by 1840 had grown to include a hamlet on its north side called Northport. The name "Appleton" was applied first to that hamlet, then to what is now downtown Appleton when it became part of town limits in 1851. In 1865, an act of Congress designated land east of State Street (now Main Street) within town limits as national forest land and incorporated as a village; Appleton remained an unincorporated village until it became a town on April 14, 1871. As Milwaukee grew rapidly during World War I and afterwards there were increasing calls for use of public lands westward into Chicago territory (the so-called “Wasser Lake Claim”), Illinois promoters offered US$1 per acre for anyone who would sell them title to any strip or tract extending westward from Waukesha County through Little Rock Township into Adams County – which included most of eastern Milwaukee County – including apple orchards and other farmlands lying within their boundaries! No one claimed such property but various claimants appeared before various authorities over ensuing years; finally on January 13th 1915 with the death of James Mclntyre (of course he*d already been long gone by this time), all claims came together and formed what we know today as “Quad City”! What followed was an intense period where people hauled ore down from Superior Coalfields & Iron Range mines some 920 miles away & delivered it here wagons filled w/u coal dust &cement etc., then processed it all back up w/u new machinery (& still does today) before exporting it off again
