Appleton, Wisconsin is a town in Brown County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha–Lawrence metropolitan area. The name "Appleton" appears to be derived from an early settler's nickname for the community "the place where apple trees grow". The first post office in Appleton was established on February 14, 1854. Appleton incorporated as a town on July 15, 1865. The village of Appleton was annexed by Appleton on December 2, 1969.
