Wheeling, West Virginia is a town located in Mingo County, West Virginia. The population was 10,398 at the 2010 census. It became the capital of Mingo County on February 17, 1881. The first white settler in what is now Wheeling was Nicholas Biddle. He and his family arrived in 1792 from England and started a log cabin near present-day Parkersburg. By 1824, Biddle had organized a post office and built a store which still stands today on the west side of Main Street. In 1828, WV's first courthouse was built on the east side of Market Square. The railroad came to Wheeling in 1868 and began service there in 1870. The townspeople put up a wooden depot next to the railroad tracks where they continued to trade goods until it burned down in 1872.
