The first coffeehouses in the area were established in 1814 and became known as the “Coffee Houses of Greenville” because of their close proximity to Greenville College. In 1828, John Cravath and Sons began producing coffee beans near downtown St. Albans and soon became known as one of the best roasters in all of America. Over time, other local businesses followed suit and Coffee House Row was born, consisting of more than 50 restaurants and cafes throughout the city. In 1881, St. Albans became one of the original 34 towns in West Virginia when it was created from portions of Central District and Harrisonburg districts. The population of St. Albans peaked at over 10,000 in 1920 but has since declined by 50%. Today, the population is only around 1,500 people and most residents survive on government assistance and tourism revenues. St. Alban's presence can be found throughout town – from churches built in brick or stone during the 19th century to businesses that still operate today such as Bookie’s Bar & Grill and Bankers Trust Company. One significant feature of town life is its annual Christmas parade which draws hundreds of spectators from all over West Virginia to enjoy refreshments and festive displays while watching floats decorated with holiday lights pass by on Independence Avenue. The parade also features traditionalerry carol singings by local churches as well as children's rides and other festivities throughout the day

St. Albans, West Virginia is a town in Marshall County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 3,846 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. St. Albans is located on the Ohio River and straddles the border of Kentucky and West Virginia. The first white settler in what became St. Albans was George Washington who came here in 1797 to help lay out the new town that would become its namesake in 1802 when he purchased land from John Allen for $1,000+. The original courthouse still stands today as part of the St. Albans Civic Center complex across from Interstate 81/WV-21 which it served until 1992 when it was moved to its current location next to City Hall Square within walking distance of both businesses and residents alike! Today's economy is based primarily on agriculture with some small manufacturing operations – most notably a foundry that produces steel plates for car bodies – but there are also many jobs available through education and government services such as law enforcement, social work, accounting and more! The town was named for Saint Alban, a religious figure who helped found a monastery in Italy. In 1828, the United States Congress passed an act giving land to the towns of Jefferson County and Logan County for the purpose of forming a new county. The towns of Pembroke and White Sulphur Springs merged into St. Albans in 1868.
