In 1919, the Parkersburg National Guard Museum was founded to document the history of the unit and its members. Parkersburg is located in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. The town was founded by Captain John Parker in 1781 and is named for him. The area that now includes Parkersburg was first settled by hunting and scavenging groups of humans and animals during the early Pleistocene period. By the time Europeans arrived, the area had been inhabited by numerous other cultures, including the Powhatan Confederacy and the Shawnee Nation. The first European to visit what is now Parkersburg was Captain John Parker in 1781. He named the area after himself and established a trading post there. Parkersburg became an important center for trade with surrounding areas during the early years of America. In 1812, General James Kapp captured Fort Donelson from Confederate forces at Battle of Buena Vista Creek while retreating from battle preceding Yorktown Campaign. This event marked the beginning of American military victories against Confederate forces. On December 12, 1814, Commodore Isaac Hull anchored his ship USS Constitution off present-day Parkersburg to load supplies for troops fighting at Yorktown Campaign before sailing back to Norfolk, Virginia following GENERAL JAMES KAPP’S OVERTHROW OF THE CONFEDERATE ARMY AT BATTLE OF LONGEWOOD。 Throughout much of its history, Parkersburg has been a small frontier town serviceable only for subsistence purposes due to its remote location and difficult terrain. The Guards were first called the Continental Army, and they served in various wars during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. In 1865, when the Union was defeated by Confederate forces, many of the Guards were disbanded. However, some remained as part of the Union army and eventually became known as the National Guard. The National Guard was reestablished in 1947 as a separate branch of government with a Constitution-based system of governance. The Guard is made up of approximately 101,000 men and women who are sworn to serve for four years without pay but can be recalled by their state or local governments for up to one year without pay if they are activated in time for an emergency or during a stateofemergency. Since its inception, the National Guard has played an important role in American society. It is responsible for providing law enforcement and security at public events such as funerals and holidays; performing search and rescue operations; providing support to military units during missions overseas; guarding federal facilities such as nuclear plants and airfields; conducting relief operations following natural disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes; and providing medical assistance during times of crisis. Parkersburg is a small town in West Virginia, United States. The population was 2,824 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1881 by Presbyterians who had moved from Scotland to Virginia. Parkersburg became an independent city in 1907. The town is located in Logan County, about southeast of Morgantown and about northwest of Huntington. The River Potomac flows through Parkersburg and forms its eastern border. In 1881, Presbyterian missionaries arrived in Parkersburg from Scotland to start a new church there. They named the new town after Andrew Jackson Palmer, one of their own ministers who had served as pastor at nearby Wheeling during the American Civil War. Palmer had been born in what is now Glasgow, Scotland in 1792 and emigrated to America when he was just eighteen years old with his parents and brothers. He worked as a printer before becoming an ordained minister at First Presbyterian Church in Wheeling before moving to Parkersburg where he began serving as pastor of the first church built there on February 15, 1881. In 1907, Parker's City Council adopted resolutions declaring that it would become an independent city separate from Morgantown under the jurisdiction of a Mayor/Council combination elected by popular vote rather than by property owners or elected officials appointed by those same property owners (thus creating something similar to but not quite so similar to New York City's Board of Education). In 1912-13, James Fenton became mayor following victory over challenger William Wirtz Jr., also a lawyer and member of the county board of education; Fenton would serve until 1951 when he succeeded his brother Harry Fenton as mayoralty winner for another term without being re-elected again due to term limits set forth by then state legislators (James Fenton would serve out his full term until 1951). On November 5th 1913 voters approved an ordinance providing for municipal government which continued: "that all citizens are entitled freeholders within this limits" while also providing: "That no person may be compelled directly or indirectly theretofore or hereafter whatsoever" with respect to taxation issues arising out of organized labor activity within parkerstown; this ordinance effectively created zoning laws still observed today - zoning ordinances were only introduced into West Virginia regulation via amendments following World War II when regulations started being written based more specifically on specific land use needs rather than historic tax values (eighth century castles vs modern housing developments). parkerstown's incorporation into Logan County followed on November 16th 1914 with final ratification ceremonies held two days later; incorporation provided for: "the election annually thereof president and councilmen jointly", authorization for expenditures necessary for "the discharge of all powers granted hereunder", creation of police department "(with two policemen per square mile), fire department "(temporaryt With one firefighter per square mile), library ($3 per month maintain)". The city manager subsequently assumed day-to-day responsibilities for both municipal government and Parksville Elementary School until 1952 when that position was transferred pursuant to WestVirginia General Assembly Bill No.(18) 92nd Leg., chapt(2), § 4 which amended Article XVIII BofWV Code § 3-1 et seq.; finally effective July 1st 1953!

Frick purchased the farm from the Ewings and moved his family there. The town of Parkersburg was founded by Frick in 1827.
