The Parkersburg Air Force Base gift history dates back to the early days of the United States Air Force. The base was founded on August 29, 1942 by General George C. Marshall, and soon began providing airfield and military support for Operation Torch, which led to World War II. In 1945, Parkersburg AFB became a strategic bomber base and played an important role in Operations Overlord and Market Garden. In 1948, the USAF moved its headquarters from Wright-Patterson AFB to Parkersburg AFB. The following year, the USAF activated the 9th Bombardment Wing at Parkersburg AFB. The wing was part of First Tactical Air Command (1st TAC), which was later renamed Ninth Air Force. In 1951, General Curtis LeMay activated Second Tactical Air Command (2nd TAC), which would become responsible for all American Aerospace Defense Forces assets within NATO. On October 1, 1955, Second Tactical Air Command was redesignated Eighth Air Force and assigned to NinthAirForce under FirstTAC command structure; this change would last until September 1957 when it reverted back to FirstTAC control after SecondTAC's merger with FifthAir Force in Texas! On July 14th 1960 - just over three years after its activation - SeventhAirforce arrived at Parkersburg AFB as a result of exercises Crusader I & II using KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft from Joint Base McGuire-Dix IN., followed by their first operational flight on November 3rd 1962! A total of 172 Sqn RAF EC-130 Hercules aircraft were operated out of our bases during these exercises!
Parkersburg is a historic town in Boone County, West Virginia, United States. It was founded in 1817 by John C. Parker and his family. The population was 12,000 at the 2000 census. Parkersburg is the county seat of Boone County. The city of Parkersburg was incorporated in 1907, and the borough of Parkersburg annexed the city in 1908. Parkerstown grew up around the Parker family's farmstead on a bend in Beaver Creek (now Glennview Avenue). John C. Parker first settled there in 1817 and named it after himself and his brother-in-law, Alexander Henderson. By 1830, residents had built a log courthouse and store on State Street between Third and Fourth streets north of present-day US Route 219/Glennview Avenue; they also built a schoolhouse on what is now First Street south of I-64/Glenbrook Road east of its current location near Interstate 81 exit number 9A (exit 4A for US Route 219) during this time period. In 1832, William Hinton erected a frame hotel on Main Street between Third and Fourth Streets which served as until about 1865 when it burned down; after that date it was used as an office building for the sheriff’s department until 1955 when it became known as “The Glenbrook House” within the city limits In 1907, local entrepreneur George Fenton bought land along Beaver Creek from Willis & Mackenzie heirs for $5 per acre to create Parkersburg Landing; he renamed it after himself three years later with another purchase involving 14 acres following clashes over naming rights with nearby Glenbrook Landing In 1917 Washington Post editorials proclaimed "the most important place in America" because its strategic location made it key to control western Ohio road transportation routes connecting Cincinnati to Pittsburgh When World War I began hostilities eruptedCongress authorized use of all available funds to build military posts throughout central Appalachia including Camp White Oak outside Fort Henry National Monument east of Greencastle Summit near where Parkersburg now sits; parkerstown falls under Camp White Oak jurisdiction but since automobiles were not yet common this post functioned mainly as an armory while other functions were filled by Ft Knox artillery range west of town During World War II numerous factories were set up along both sides of Beaver Creek due to war shortages caused by depression era austerity measures enacted by Rooseveltadministration retrenching government jobs programs across all industries so companies shifted production away from agriculture towards manufactures leaving rural areas without access to essential goods or services ; although many people left their homes during wartime rationing efforts some like George Fenton decided to stay put behind barbed wire fences surrounding his land granting him immunity from federal food stamps program restrictions which continues into today Although much has changed since then such as population growth rates making downtown more popular tourist destination outside tech jobsowntown housing prices continue increasing , downtown businesses have made efforts to tap into new technology infusion Areas such as Main Street East Business District are seeing increased development thanks largely to investments by major corporations who see opportunity within traditional tourism industry begun redevelopment projects such as Old Courthouse Square Historic district slated for renovation beginning early 2019 should help revive aspect(s) once seen declining during recent years

In 1912, Parkersburg became the county seat of Brooke County after it was chosen by voters. At that time, Brooke County consisted only of portions of what is now West Virginia. During World War I, Parkersburg played an important role in the war effort due to its location on the front lines: It was home to both army hospitals and artillery ranges. After World War II ended, Parkersburg experienced some growth but also some decline: Its population decreased from 20,000 during World War II to 9500 in 1960; and then declined again until it reached 7500 in 2000. However, during recent years there have been steady increases in population that have led to increased development within parkerstown itself as well as within neighboring towns and villages throughout Brooke County. Today’s Parkerstown is one of America’s most significant cities – with a vibrant cultural community that reflects its history and culture very closely indeed; an active economic sector which continues to grow despite challenging economic conditions; impressive public services including parks (including several world-renowned golf courses); excellent infrastructure including roads and bridges; top-notch education options including two highly ranked universities (West Liberty University & Central State University); amazing geographic features such as Mount Rushmore National Monument & numerous other national landmarks – all adding up to an incredibly diverse community whose residents are proud members of their own unique mosaic!
