The Martinsburg Coast Guard was founded on September 3, 1827. The first duty of the Coast Guard was to protect the interests of its citizens and preventing marine smuggling. The Coast Guard has changed through the years, but it is still a vital part of society in Martinsburg. Today, the Coast Guard provides services such as Search and Rescue operations, protection from pirate activity, and assistance during natural disasters. In 1923, the Martinsburg Port Authority was created to manage traffic on the Potomac River. This led to a need for a more efficient way to provide service toMartinsburg residents. In 1932, the Martinsburg Borough Council approved plans for a new harbor that would accommodate vessels up to 30 feet in length. The harbor opened in 1935 and has served as an important link betweenMartinsburg and Washington D.C., helping make Martinsberga one of America’s most prosperous towns. Today, the Martinez-Walsh Act allows members ofthe Coast Guard Reserve to board commercial vessels while they are docked at local ports or harbors without having their rank or insignia displayed on their clothing or equipment while they are ashore. This service is especially useful during emergencies when there is no other means for sailors to reach their destination safely.

The Martinsburg, West Virginia Coast Guard District was established on October 1, 1916. The present Coast Guard District is formed out of the merger of two previous coast guard districts: the Huntington Beach, California district and the Portsmouth, Virginia district. The Huntington Beach, California district was established on February 12, 1916 as part of the establishment of the United States Coast Guard. The Portsmouth, Virginia district was established on November 3, 1916 as part of the consolidation of five coast guard districts in western Virginia. In 1936, a new station was built at Fort Epps inMartinsburg and renamed "New Port Richey". In 1967 a new station named "Fort Detrick" was built at Greenbrier River Naval Air Station in Frederick County and renamed "Marine Corps Station New Port Richey". In 1984 a new station named "Fort Casey" was built at Martinsburg Naval Air Station and renamed "United States Coast Guard Station Casey".
Martinsburg, West Virginia is a small town located in Mingo County, West Virginia. The population was 9,812 at the 2010 census. The name of the town derived from its location on the Appomattox River. The first people to live in Martinsburg were Creek Indians who hunted and fished in the area. They built their first homes around 1800. settlers started arriving in droves after the United States acquired land east of the Allegheny Mountains in 1819. Many of these early settlers were Methodists who wanted to move away from religious persecution in England. The growth of Martinsburg was due to two factors: its location on a river and its availability for goods brought by wagon trains coming down the road from Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. In 1838, General David Hunter named Martinsburg “the territorial capital” because he believed that it would be a more reliable center for government than Winchester, Virginia which had been Fort Harrison’s previous capital. At that time, Winchester was about halfway between Portsmouth and Williamsport along the Potomac River and was under siege by Federal troops led by Major Nathaniel Pemberton during what is known as Battle of Brandywine. This action helped spur development near Winchester because it gave Federal troops an easy way out if they ran into trouble with local militias or Indians。 In 1868, Congress passed an act making Martinsburg the permanent seat of government for Mingo County following settler pressure to move closer to central Pennsylvania where most businesses were located. Martinsburg experienced significant growth during World War II when thousands of men came through town looking for work on construction projects or service-related roles such as airmen or marines stationed at nearby bases like Wright-Patterson AFB or naval vessels at Norfolk Naval Shipyard.. Afterward, many residents left for smaller towns throughout Appalachia while others took up residency within Martinsberg itself over ensuing decades until its decline beginning in the 1970s due principally to economic reasons including decline in livestock production and high school dropouts moving into nearby Residence Halls International (RH). However, RH has since reopened as one of Mingo County’s newest community colleges providing outreach programs such as job training opportunities for low-income students not only inMartinsburgh but also neighboring communities such as Huntington Beach and Clarksville which have seen similar success when it comes to redeveloping abandoned properties into mixed-use districts with affordable housing options..
The Coast Guard has been a part of the American community since its inception in 1790. The first coast guard station was established at Newport, Rhode Island and it was not until 1814 that the first Coast Guard cutter, Constitution, was built. The Coast Guard has frequently been called upon to help protect our coastline and maritime interests. In 1916, the establishment of the National Maritime Commission (NMCS) led to the creation of the Coast Guard Auxiliary which provided support for NMCS missions. In 1940, Congress passed legislation authorizing the President to appoint a coast guard commissioner who would lead all aspects of coastal security for all US citizens. This made it possible for the Coast Guard to become an autonomous organization with its own budget and personnel. On July 1st, 1971, Commander in Chief John J. Pershing authorized activation of both United States Navies assets within Department of Homeland Security as part of Operation Neptune’s Spear which aimed to prevent terrorists from attacking US shores along America’s southern border
In 1915, the United States Coast Guard was created as a result of the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. In 1916, Congress passed the Coast Guard Act and on May 1, 1916, the first Coast Guardsmen were sworn in at Fort Point on Long Island. The Coast Guardsman were quickly given their own uniforms and became a part of theU.S. military. On November 5, 1918, President Woodrow Wilson signed into law the National Defense Act which created the Department of Navy and set up naval facilities along America's coastlines to help protect American interests in World War I.
In the early 1800s, Martinsburg was a small town in rural West Virginia. It was founded by Scots-Irish settlers in 1781 and quickly became a center of culture and education for the region. The town played an important role in the history of both West Virginia and America. Martinsburg was first known as Monongalia County seat. In 1801, it became a part of Harrison County after it was created from parts of Mingo, Logan, Brooke, and Allegheny counties. The county was renamed to West Virginia in 1861 after the statehood of West Virginia. The town's economy changed significantly during the American Civil War. With its strategic location on the Ohio River, Martinsburg became one of the most important Confederate military centers. It also played an important role in supporting guerrilla warfare against Union forces. After the war, Martinsburg rapidly recovered and emerged as one ofWest Virginias most vibrant communities. Its economy continues to be based on agriculture and manufacturing today. The town is home to dozens of cultural attractions including a museum dedicated to traditional Western art, a opera house, and several shopping districts that offer unique local products
In 1802, John Martin was the first white man to settle in Martinsburg. He built his initial farm on what is now the east side of the street that runs through the center of town. In 1810, he married Martha Ann Hinson and together they started a family. They were forced out of their home in 1814 by Indian raiders, but returned two years later after negotiations. The Hinson household was one of the most successful in Martinsburg because it produced corn, tobacco, beans, and other crops. It also had a large barn and slaves helped to run the farm. John Martin passed away in 1826, leaving behind his wife and four children.
