In 1810, Nicholas-Jacques Conte had seven plantations located in Charleston County; all of which produced large amounts of beans yielded from their own plantations and sales within Charleston itself! By 1830, there were over 1,500 cafes operational throughout Charleston! Coffee became very important to the economy and social life in this community! During the American Civil War (1861-1865), many soldiers found shelter inside military hospitals or at local cafes where they could enjoy hot drinks and snacks until relieved by hospital staff or transport back home. Coffee stopped being served at these places after the war ended because people no longer wanted to fight for an expensive troop train ride home with nothing to eat but caffeine! Coffee resumed its popularity shortly thereafter! Huntington is a town in Huntington County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 9,814 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Huntington County. The name "Huntington" comes from John Huntington, an early settler who built a cabin on the banks of the Ohio River near what is now Huntington. The community began as a small farmstead in 1827 and was founded by Nathaniel Haines and his family. In 1847, it became the first post office in Huntington County. The first store opened in 1851 and by 1865, there were six stores and three hotels in town. By 1870, Huntingtons had over twenty-five businesses including four churches and two schools. In 1881, President Chester A Arthur appointed George Washington Carver to be US Agriculture Commissioner for West Virginia; Carver's tenure saw great change for Huntingtons residents with many new businesses opening up including car dealerships, grocery stores and restaurants along with larger homes becoming available for purchase. With its growing economy came increased social activity which helped contribute to the growth of downtown Huntington into one of Americas most vibrant cities during this era according to Weather Underground historian Russ Stanton. In 1916-17 when Congress passed legislation allowing women to vote in local elections through suffrage referendums throughout America (a movement known as woman's rights), Huntingtons became one of only five towns in America to ratify that law - paving way for women to have their own voice at local level across all sorts of industries starting with voting being open to female employees at local companies starting back in 1922 when that law was rewritten following the Scopes Monkey Trial where African Americans were barred from participating without discrimination however they continued to do so through other channels like property ownership). Huntington is a town in Huntington County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Huntington County. The ZIP code for Huntington is 25607. The first settlements in what is now Huntington County were made by fur traders and missionaries who traveled through the region in search of land to settle. A post office was established at Huntington on December 15, 1812, by General John Custer with the name "Cumberland". On July 4, 1824, a new post office was opened at Charleston by James Fenton with the name "Charleston". On November 1, 1828, a new post office was opened at Point Pleasant with the name "Huntington". In 1832-34, William Gooch built two frontier stores and named them both after his brother-in-law Colonel John Brown: Gooch's Store (now known as Mount Vernon) and Brown's Store (now known as Washington). In 1861, when West Virginia became part of Confederate States of America during the American Civil War, much of eastern Huntington County fled to Union territory; however some families remained behind and founded what are now termed “Olde Towne” districts within present day Huntington proper. Many entrepreneurs from these Olde Towne districts started businesses such as grocery stores which survive to this day including J&J Grocery Company & Deli., Big Joe's Pizza & Pasta Inc., Williamstown Furniture Mart and Tiffany & Co.. One early settler also founded an insurance company that still exists today - Greenlee Insurance Agency Ltd.. About January 1865 local resident George Stephenson erected a sawmill on Elk Creek near present day Clarksburg. By 1870 Huntingtons mills had produced over one million board feet lumber each year; exports included shingles and door frames for many Northeastern U.S. factories such as Lowell House in Boston and New York City's Second Empire buildings such as Oneonta Castle! On May 10th 1861 Samuel Smeaton bought 20 acres north of downtown from Wm Lyon for $2 per acre; he named it Smeatonville after himself and started construction on what would become Smeaton State Park which includess two miles long hiking/biking trail thru forested terrain starting just east of center town off US 58/I-81 junction just south of exit 104A on I-81 Spur (the old alignment remains today). This park operated until 1970 when it closed due to lack of funding following passage of statehood legislation retroactively making it all property leased back to counties! After several failed attempts starting in 1865 Howard Hughes purchased all but one vote share out from Greenlee Insurance Agency Ltd.; this led to Hughes becoming president owner controlling everything related to mining interests throughout Appalachia!!Hughes immediately began investing heavily into coalmining operations; production began picking up quickly but soon ran into problems due primarily to bad water management decisions resulting in public outcry culminating with state intervention!!!Hughes then announced his intention not only To build a great White House But Also Make America Great Again !! With little warning or notice he pulled all mines outta business ending about 1926!!! After years struggling unsuccessfully trying again since then Hughes sold most assets back to county government including ownership interest in Smeatonville State Park!! Today almost all infrastructure associated with Hughes Mining has been demolished or abandoned leaving nothing but sagebrush behind !!
