In the early 1940s, Huntington was a small town in Virginia. It had a small air force and it was decided to send a gift of planes to the town. The planes were brought in by private individuals and the Air Force. After World War II ended, the Air Force disbanded and the planes were given back to their owners. However, some of them still remain in storage today. In 1947, Huntington received its first Boeing 707 aircraft. This plane served as the city's primary transportation until 1975 when they started using Jetstreams. The last Boeing 727 that served as the city's primary transport was retired in 2002. The City of Huntington has only used helicopters for transport ever since then! Today, Huntington is known for its aviation industry although it is not alone- many other towns have similar histories with this type of gift.

Today, Huntington relies heavily on tourism for its economy; however, this sector remains largely unimportant compared to other sectors such as agriculture or manufacturing which have seen more growth over time. AAD comprised all of USAF headquarters including Fighter Command (FC), Tactical Missile Wing (TMW), Strategic Missile Wing (SMW), SupportCommand (SC), and Intelligence Squadron 1. In 1962, ADC was made responsible for all ground-based missiles within USAF jurisdiction, which gave it responsibility for greater than 50% of America's nuclear arsenal. Huntington is a small town in West Virginia, United States. The population was 5,733 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Huntington-Ashland-Muncy, WV-KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Huntington" is derived from the Potomac River. The town was founded in 1825 by John Dickey and his family after they acquired land from the Cherokees. Dickey named his new community for General James George Washington, who had been Custodian of Trade during the American Revolution. The first post office in Huntington opened in 1828. In 1830, Samuel Cranch became the first settler in Huntington Township. By 1840, there were over 100 families living in Huntington Township and 2 churches were organized that year: one Baptist and one Methodist. In 1865, Confederate General Robert Ewell moved his headquarters to nearby Ashland while he preparations for an upcoming invasion of Kentucky. He ordered 350 men to form a camp within sight of Huntington on May 31st known as Battle Mountain because it would soon be reached by wagon road from Winchester through Huntingdon Valley towards Lebanon Junction on Canandaigua Creek where horses were being driven south to be sold into slavery at Richmond near present day Elizabethtown, Virginia On July 12th 1865 when General Ewell learned about Union forces approaching him from Winchester he withdrew all but 10 men (the rest surrendered). At 4 pm that afternoon Confederate Major General Hardy Littlefield arrived with orders to burn down all buildings and inhabitants in Huntington except those needed for military purposes only or if they could provide information leading to troops whereabouts or units engaged elsewhere; this order was immediately carried out without resistance despite numerous shots being fired by both sides resulting in several injuries including 1 dead general Littlefield returned home that evening having failed to gain any intel about Union movements which allowed McClellan's army reinforcements time to arrive and crush him
