The history of Fairmont coffee begins with the original settlers in the early 1800s. After moving to the area, they began growing coffee and selling it to local merchants. It wasn't until 1880 that Fairmont became a commercially successful coffee town. The first commercial roaster in Fairmont was Botanical Coffee Company, which started up in 1881. Over time, other businesses such as the Harrison Coffee Company and National Roasters have joined Botanical Coffee Company as well. Today, Fairmont is home to some of the most renowned cup-makers in the world, including Starbucks, Peet's Coffee, and Two Hands Tea & Coffee.
Fairmont was founded in 1825 by George Fairmont and is a town located in Logan County, West Virginia. The population of Fairmont was 9,431 at the 2010 census. The town is named after George Fairmont, who donated the land for the town. The first store in Fairmount opened on May 1, 1826. In 1870, the fairgrounds were enlarged and became the main shopping center for the community. In 1907, a post office was established in Fairmount and has been in operation since that time. The original town site consisted of only a few acres of land and it took many years before enough businesses grew up to make it an actual town. One of the earliest businesses in Fairmont was a grocery store which started out as part of what would become known as the Pioneer Store Complex. The complex included six stores and two hotels which served as both homes and work places for local farmers and miners. During its early years,Fairmount had very limited transportation options so people had to rely on horse-drawn wagons or carts to get around. This led to some interesting residents including John Danton who ran one of Morgantown's first banks from his home until he moved to Fairmount after General Grant captured Fort Donelson in 1865. In 1925,GeorgeFairmont donated 2 miles (3 km) of road from Logan County Courthouse square westward to form what is now known as Main Street in honor of his son Wm., Jr., also a rancher born into poverty but with unyielding determination working tirelessly towards self-improvement throughout his life; one that spanned more than 70 years.—Wm., Jr.'s grandson upon his death stated "There wasn't anything anyone could do about it because he just kept pushing." His grandson went on to say "It's amazing how hard he worked all those years – even when times were tough." Even though George died young at just 59 years old due to pneumonia complications brought on by overwork during World War I; his legacy lives on through Wm., Jr.'s grandson who continues operations atMain Street today.—Today’s Main Street follows much of Sr.'s path: starting out small with only three groceries/bakery items available back then; gradually expanding into several specialty stores over time; becoming an institution within our community with decades worth OFHGLE designation votes & numerous events hosted there annually.–Many Thanks To Sr.'s Legacy For creating What Is Now Our Community staple!
