The history of shooters in Clarksburg, West Virginia dates back to the early 1800s. The area was first populated by Native Americans and hunting dogs were used for tracking and retrieving game. By 1848, white settlers had arrived in the area and a shooting range was established at what is now downtown Clarksburg. The original owners of the range were Fayetteville rifleman John Butler and his brother-in-law, James Murchison. In 1849, Butler donated land to the town of Clarksburg on which they created a park named after him. The first black residents of Clarksburg were welcomed into the community through open doors and integration was slow because there were no laws against it at that time. In 1865, Samuel White opened a grocery store in downtown Clarksburg which became one of the most important businesses in town. He soon realized that he could not rely on deer hunters to provide his business with goods because they would only hunt during certain seasons; he needed someone who could hit targets from long distances. In 1867, White hired Blacksmith Joshua Gentry as his second employee and began turning out high-quality rifles for members of the military and law enforcement agencies throughout central Pennsylvania. From this start, Gentry became known as "the Father of American Riflery." With continued growth in business, White purchased land northwest of town for an indoor range that would serve all parts oftown until it burned down in 1929. At its peak, Gentry's shop produced over 1 million rounds per year! In 1907, Jenssen & Sons bought Gentry's store outright and began producing rifles under their own name instead of using any other manufacturer's products. This led to increased production due to greater stability within their own company as well as better control over quality standards than when Gentry worked for them before! Over time however sales dwindled due to technological advancements such as flashlights which made target acquisition much easier than it once was! Today there are several museums located near downtown Clarksburg dedicated entirely to Shooter History including The Gunnery Museum (opened 1997) and Liberty Hall (opened 2003).

The town was founded by George Washington and other frontier settlers in 1775 as part of the Transylvania Company. The original name for the town (Clarksburg) was derived from an Indian word meaning "the place where they roast their corn." In 1814, General Andrew Jackson's army burned down the courthouse and all but four buildings in Clarksburg during his raid on Greeneville; this destroyed much of downtown Clarksburg and left it without a permanent structure until after reconstruction began in 1868. Clarksburg became a consolidated city of Huntington and Parkersburg on July 1, 1907. At that time, only Parkersburg had more people than Huntington.
Clarksburg was founded in 1781 by Revolutionary War General Benedict Arnold. The town grew rapidly, and in 1809 it became the capital of West Virginia. It continued to grow, and in 1865 it became the largest city in West Virginia. Clarksburg was renamed Huntington in 1907 after Samuel P. Huntington, Jr., one of the founders of American Motors Corporation.
