Charleston is a town in Boone County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 9,531 at the 2010 census. Charleston is the county seat of Boone County. It lies on the Ohio River and forms part of the Wheeling–Charleston, WV-OH Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent white settler in what is now Charleston was Andrew Johnson who arrived there in 1786. He built a home on Governors Island which still stands today as a museum.
