Initially stationed at Fort Moultrie, this garrison was later relocated to the old Fort Sumter. In 1902, the Coast Guard Station Elizabeth City was established in Elizabeth City County and became part of the Coastal Guard District 2. On January 1st, 1907, the Headquarters for District 2 which included both stations Elizabeth City and Myrtle Beach were transferred from Georgetown to Charleston. On July 1st, 1912 the Headquarters for District 3 (Charleston-North Myrtle Beach) were transferred from Beaufort to Charleston. The Headquarters for District 4 (South Carolina) were activated on November 1st 1913 at Hilton Head Island and became a permanent station on that location on January 1st 1914. The Headquarters for District 5 (Aiken) were activated on October 25th 1915 at Fincastle Naval Air Station in Aiken County and became a permanent station thereon effective date thereof. On May 14th 1916 Puerto Rico was added as a district within District 5 and all Coast Guards activities along its coast ceased Effective date of this order # 10595 . In 1935 all districts within Division I were redesignated as Patrol Areas and their headquarters moved from Savannah, Georgia to Miami Beach Florida therefore ending service with DIVISION I
