The history of coffee in Bluefield, West Virginia goes back to at least 1824 when a group of Dutch farmers started growing coffee beans in the area. The first written record of coffee being grown in this region is from 1828, when a letter was written by Captain John Byers concerning his purchase of some coffee beans from a man named Joris van der Werf. This early coffee farmstead was located on what is now known as Main Street in the town of Bluefield. In 1865, C.J. Robinson began operating a small grocery store and cafe on Commercial Street in Bluefield. This business was later renamed Robinson's Coffee House and served as the center for local customers for over fifty years. In 1984, Robinson's Coffee House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and continues to be recognized for its unique architecture and historical significance. Today, there are many businesses that provide both local and national levels of coffee service within the town of Bluefield. Some notable establishments include Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, Subway, Paleo Pizza Place, and Pie Maniacs Tavern & Cafe.
Bluefield is a town in Kanawha County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 5,309 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kanawha County. Bluefield is part of the Wheeling-Erie metropolitan area. The name "Bluefield" comes from two early British settlers, John and James Bluefield, who arrived in 1786 and were among the first white men to settle in what became Kanawha County. In 1819, when Kanawha County was created from portions of Monongalia and Mingo counties, Bluefield became its Seat. The town's first store opened in 1831 and soon prospered as a center for agricultural production and trade with neighboring counties. In 1865, during the American Civil War (1861–1865), Battle of Monongalia occurred near Bluefield which resulted in five Union soldiers killed and thirteen wounded including six officers. This event made national news and led to increased support for the Confederacy among local farmers who saw it as another victory against Union forces while also demonstrating Confederate military might. As a result of this battle, bluefields throughout western Virginia were renamed after Confederate soldiers killed or wounded therein: Monongalia (Lincolnshire Regiment), Mingo (Third Kentucky Infantry), Logan (Wabash Valley Rifle Corps), Gordonsville (Confederate States Infantry Regiment No 2) etc.. During World War II (1939–1945), much effort was expended by both sides on munitions manufacturing at nearby Workman’s Mill before being moved to other locations due to enemy bombings raids targeting major manufacturers overseas such as Mitsubishi Heavy Industries plant located in Nitre Hill outside of Portsmouth NH; Ford Motor Company Louisville KY; Knoxville Tennessee; Richmond Virginia; Bethlehem Pennsylvania etc., resulting in extensive damage to infrastructure including mills & factories - all within 3 miles of where Bluefield now stands! In 1951 when Kanawha County discovered coal seams that had been undiscovered since civilization began there was great anticipation among miners, their families and friends alike as prospects for finding new wealth through coal mining grew ever more promising following years of hard work by both men & women across the county! The opening of mines like Donlin Mines & Consolidated Coal Company followed quickly followed by others like Van Wert Coal Mine only turning out large quantities rather than quality coal that could be sold abroad at high prices! By 1630, coffee had become an important commodity in England and its colonies throughout North America. The Dutch began their own coffee plantation industry in the 1620s, while Italian traders also started exporting coffee to Europe during this time. The earliest espresso machines were built by Angelo Nobili around 1790. They worked by heating water up until it became hot enough to produce a small amount of caffeine which would be pushed down into a cup through a small hole near the bottom of the machine. This type of machine was eventually replaced by early automatic machines which heated water up until it reached boiling point before pushing cafés ground beans down into a cup for brewing. Today, espresso remains one of the most popular types of coffee enjoyed across many cultures around the world – from Italy’s La Scala Theatre where opera audiences enjoy official-quality espresso every day to Japanese customers who visit Starbucks for delicious lattes made with only whole bean espresso!
