The Yakima Valley is home to the Yakima Army National Guard, which has been deployed in support of national and international operations since World War II. After years of donation drives and displays throughout town square (now Meridian Street), Soldiers' Mothers Day was celebrated on May 10th 1951 with a parade down Meridian Street followed by a cookout at Mount Vernon Park! On December 12th 1954 Milt Bearden donated four dining chairs from his army quarters at Ft Lewis missile range! These chairs still sit on our property today! On February 2nd 1955 Sqdn/Lt Donald Wickersham sent us two cases Of Scotch whisky for use BY THE GUARD IN INDIA! Five days later we received TWO more cases!! One case each From Air Force Lt John Eldredge USMC & Lt William Prowse USMC - these men were also stationed at Ft Lewis And helped with Our troops fighting In IndoChina
