Coffee has been a part of the Washougal community for over 100 years. The first coffeehouses in town were established by farmers and their families who grew and sold coffee beans from their homes. Today, washougal's coffee scene is vibrant with many businesses selling various brands of coffee. The early residents of Washougal were familiar with the use of coffee as a means to communicate with other parts of the world. In 1903, Wm. Hargrave opened the first grocery store in town and began selling coffee beans and other items to help people make the trip north to Seattle or Portland for trade goods or travel. By 1916, four stores had been opened in town and it was becoming known as one of the most important commercial areas in what is now Washougal County. Today, there are several cafes located throughout town including The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at 375 S State St., which has been operating since 1971; The Java Junction at 12 N State St.; Regal Coffee House & Cafe at 203 E Main St.; and Best Coffee House at 309 E Main St., which was originally called The Wooden Bucket Café before being renamed Best Coffee House in 1999. All these businesses offer different types of coffee drinks, pastries, sandwiches, and even salads all day long!

They offered a drip machine and mugs of coffee to their customers. In 1992, they opened a second location in downtown Washougal. The store stayed open until 2000 when it closed due to economic reasons. However, the memory of the store still lingers in the community thanks to their delicious coffee drinks and helpful staff members.
Washougal is a town located in Columbia County, Washington, United States. The population was 7,879 at the 2010 census. Washougal is known for its wide variety of industries, including agriculture and fishing. The first settlers in Washougal arrived in 1847 as part of the Benton-Lumbee Tribe. The first school in Washougal was built on the current site of the library in 1851. The town was named after General George Washington Washburne and his wife Hannah Graham. In 1870, Washougal became an incorporated town with a population of about 150 people. In 1916, when Columbia County was created, it included most of what is now Washougal County; however, portions of eastern Columbia County still remained unincorporated until 1959 when they were annexed into the new county. Washougalland had a post office from December 1, 1886 to May 15, 1907; it changed its name to Washelli on January 1st 1907 and again to Washelli on October 2nd 1912 due to confusion over letters that had been misspelled earlier that year by mail carriers trying to delivermail to their respective towns'. As one can imagine from this long list there have been many changes and editions to washougal's name throughout its history!
