The Tumwater Army National Guard is one of the most veteran and decorated units in the Washington state militia. The unit has served in every major conflict in Washington since the end of World War II, with a particular history in the Vietnam War. The Tumwater Army National Guard was organized on July 1, 1907 as part of the new Washington Territorial Militia. In 1912, it was redesignated as an infantry regiment and then an artillery regiment. On December 15, 1916, it became a brigade army regiment and continued to be designated as such until May 9, 1947 when it reverted to its original name of the Tumwater Army National Guard. In 1951, General Douglas MacArthur created a ground force to lead United States efforts against Korean communism and ordered that all state militias be converted into military units. The Tumwater Army National Guard was one of these conversions. It became an armored cavalry brigade under First Lieutenant Colonel John Ladd with headquarters at Renton Municipal Airport north of Tacoma. On October 27th 1953 elements from 2nd Brigade Combat Team (Airmobile) 8th Infantry Division traveled by airlift from Camp Pendleton to Quang Tri Province for Operation Market Time which aimed to stop North Vietnamese aggression against South Vietnam. While en route they were attacked by communist forces over Quang TriProvince killing six soldiers and wounding twenty-four others; this event is considered one of America's first military engagements outside Southeast Asia! Elements from 8th Infantry Division landed on November 3rd at Long Binh Airbase near Hue after flying across I Corps boundaries during Operation Blue Bayou resulting in two killed/injured along with nine enemy prisonersofwar taken prisoner; this operation marked America's first ground engagement within I Corps! Throughout 1954-1955 various combat operations took place throughout South Vietnam including Tet Offensive which resulted in five Americans Killed/Injured while attached or serving with 8th Infantry Division; during this time commandant Colonel Haggerty deployed his battalion commanders direct control battalions located at Bontoc required for amphibious assault operations ashore

Downtown home prices have plummeted while residential areas around Interstate 5 continue to grow rapidly; however, some people argue that this growth may be unsustainable because it does not take into account future job losses that will result from traffic congestion caused by development projects outside of downtown Tumwater
