Mill Creek is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The name " Mill Creek" comes from the fact that the creek flows through the town. Gourmet coffee has been brewed here since at least 1892. The first coffee beans were roasted on an old mill in Mill Creek. In 1893, John Denton opened his first store in Mill Creek and started selling coffee. By 1896, he had built a large warehouse and roasting house near the creek where he continued to roast coffee until his death in 1929. In 1909, Charlie Patton opened his own grocery store in Mill Creek and began marketing gourmet coffee. He also sellafood items such as fish and chips, macaroni salad, etc.. By 1912, Patton's store had closed but his son kept the business running until it was sold to Harry Aiken in 1957. Aiken continued to run it until it was closed by federal regulators in 1984 because of its use of lead-based paint inside the building. In 1992, Bob Schieffer started brewing gourmet coffee at his home brewery located near Mill Creek. He continued to brew this type of coffee until 2001 when he retired from brewing altogether due to health reasons.

In 1916, a new coffee house called The Coffee House & Bakery was opened by Mr. John Haggerty and his wife Mrs. Jane Haggerty. It was located on Second Avenue. In 1977, the brick building that once housed The Roast Shop burned down and it is not known how long it took for the fire to reach the building before it caused damage to it.
